We couldn’t go up since it was closed for the season but there is lots of cool info about it at the bottom and the trail getting to it was a fun little walk. Will be back in the summer to climb it!

The lock is run by the National Park Service and the Army Corps of Engineers, and a ranger gives tours at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm in the summer. The tour is definitely worth your time! It only takes about 30 minutes, but the ranger explains the history of the area as well as the significance of the falls and the lock. The lock itself is no longer used (as of July 2018), but the tour is still interesting and you get to enjoy some great views from the top. Plus, the tours are free! This was one of the first things we did in the city, and it was the perfect way to introduce us to the history of the city.

I had never seen a lock in person and it was very interesting to see it though I did not get to see it in action. The waterfall created in this area is lovely to view as well. A nice place for a walk.

We stopped by with my aunt and uncle who are avid outdoors people who live nearby. We were not disappointed. There were literally over 5000 birds on the water! Apparently they like to stop here on their way east before they turn south for the winter. It was a sight unlike any I've seen before. They have some free looking glasses available (like the one's you see on top of large buildings). Most people (us included) brought binoculars too. It was a fun stop on our day out with the kids.
