Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens offers everything from colorful displays to thunderous waves. The mild maritime climate makes it a garden for all seasons, attracting gardeners and nature lovers. With manicured formal gardens, a dense coastal pine forest, native flora and habitats, fern-covered canyons, camellias, rhododendrons, magnolias and conifers, heaths, heathers, and flower-filled coastal bluffs overlooking the blue ocean, the garden is a jewel on the Pacific Coast. Your visit is a show of support for our non-profit botanical garden and its mission!
We’ve never been disappointed by this garden. This time the rhododendrons were in full bloom and it was also a great time to see native wildflowers. We love the transition from beautiful display gardens to native plants (as you head to dramatic ocean overlook). Another good time to visit garden is in July/August, when the dahlias & heathers are blooming.

The Solar Living Center is a serene, lush 12-acre renewable energy and sustainable living demonstration site. The site features a biodiesel fueling station, electric car charging station, one of Ca.'s largest solar arrays, a certified organic garden, 3 beautiful ponds, the Real Goods store and the Solar Living Institute. The Solar Living Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that manages the site. On site the Institute hosts many workshops, school tours, kids' summer camp, and offers camping and a Tiny House for guest stays.
Staying in the Tiny House at the Solar Living Center is one of those experiences that would be for everyone but at the same time, won’t be a disappointment to those who seek it out, or are anxious to discover new things. I discovered the Solar Living Center about a year earlier while returning from someplace else, and was so fascinated with the place I looked them up and found that they teach courses there on solar energy, so after signing up for one of their courses I found that I could stay in their Tiny House. The Tiny House is exactly how it sounds, very small, yet comfortable and in a park like setting. If having a park all to yourself is something that interests you, then staying at the Solar Living Center is something you should consider. The park is more than just a park though. Throughout the park there is artwork and exhibits designed to expose people to solar power, biodiesel, aquaculture and more. This is more than a place to just retreat from the world for a few days, but also a great place to be inspired and learn new things.

The bottom of this tremendous redwood tree has been hollowed out so that cars can drive through it.
After a friendly greeting from the cashier, we paid $10 and drove through an amazing stretch of the Redwood forest. Seeing these old, huge trees was so great and that alone was worth the small fee. Driving through the Chandelier Tree is unforgettable! Our rental car was a Nissan Altima and fit through easily. There are clean bathrooms and a really nice gift shop with pleasant staff. We loved it!

One of the better tourist gift shops I have been in. Super nice guy working in the store. I purchased one of the bear carvings - the carvings are some of the best chainsaw carvings I have seen, and very reasonably priced, particularly for the quality
