Mayen is a town in the Mayen-Koblenz District of the Rhineland-Palatinate Federal State of Germany, in the eastern part of the Volcanic Eifel Region. As well as the main town, additional settlements include Alzheim, Kürrenberg, Hausen-Betzing, Hausen and Nitztal. Mayen is the administrative centre of the Vordereifel ‘Collective Municipality’, although it is not part of the municipality.

Spent about 2 hours in the Eifel museum and the mines. Great and interesting and everything is very compact and in a nice scenery. The staff is also extremely friendly and helpful.

Die Spätrömische Höhenbefestigung Katzenberg, ist eine römische Fliehburg aus dem 4. Jahrhundert bei Mayen. Der Katzenberg war die größte der etwa 60 spätrömischen Höhenbefestigungen, die im Raum der Eifel und des Hunsrücks entstanden sind. Im Jahr 2000 wurden auf Mauerresten Teile der Wehrmauer und zwei Rundtürme rekonstruiert.
