Anyone who loves wine will absolutely love the Douro Valley and wine tour and the services from Oporto Sensations Tour are extraordinary. In Porto you'll be picked up at your hotel or apartment and learn all about the region as you are chauffeured to the Douro Valley. Our guide, Pedro, was incredibly knowledgeable in the region and was a joy to converse with over a lunch that was included in the very reasonable price, followed by a one hour boat tour of the valley also included. Two wineries are visited and the tours were very enjoyable and there is no pressure to purchase anything even after a few wine tastings. This is a family owned business and you'll definitely feel the personal attention which you never receive with the big commercial company tours. They offer other tours as well and this is now my go to tour operator in Porto

Francisco met us at our boat. He couldn’t have been nicer. Drove us to meet Louis, our Tuk-Tuk driver who took us on a 90 minute tour of the city. We went to small neighborhoods and Louis gave us the history and sense of everyday life in Porto. We had been to the cathedral in the past so he suggested the railroad station. There we saw the most beautiful murals of hand painted tiles. I was mesmerized by the detail. Louis explained what these murals represented. Francisco than picked us up and we were off to the Mercado Market in Matosinhos for a delicious lunch where we picked out our fish and then dined on a delicious meal right in the market. Great local experience and wonderful food and service.

We are fans of Vinho Verde but had no idea what to expect...wowww! The Alvarinho region is in the north of Portugal in Monção Melgaço subregion. We headed to the most famous producer of Alvarinho in Portugal and had a tasting with the owner/winemaker himself...a treat! Amazing wines and good conversation. Lunch was the highlight, with typical minhota food, hearty meal with soul. Maria was a great guide...she is so passionate about food and wine, she is a great travel companion. I will definetly recommend.

Well we certainly had a day to remember from the moment Pedro picked us up from our apartment. Pedro the perfect guide nothing was too much trouble. He drove us to the Duoro valley while imparting his extensive knowledge with such passion and enthusiasm and humour. I think one if the things that struck me most about the day was the feeling that you felt like you were out for the day with friends rather than on some military regimented tour! The Douro is stunning and we were blessed with beautiful weather. The day included a visit to a state of the art Winery for a tour and tasting - I was impressed by their use of gravity rather than electric pumps to produce their delicious wine and port - eco wine what could be better than that! This was followed by a fabulous lunch at a typical Portuguese restaurant, a boat trip on the Douro and finally a visit to the home of a wine merchant where we were greeted with a warm welcome and enjoyed another extensive wine tasting while we sat on the terrace enjoying the evening sun and fabulous views. All in all amazing a truly ‘Wow!’ day and will definitely be going on another of Pedro’s stunning tours on my next visit to Porto. Thanks Pedro

7. Underground Restaurant Experience

Matosinhos, Portugal WoW Hint

This is a unique emotional experience and entering into a secret spot of a friend for 3 hours to eat dinner, talk and learn a little more of our local culture. The interaction that may arise enhances understanding between cultures. The idea born with the aim of sharing with us, our passion for Portuguese cuisine with people who appreciate an alternative dining experience. Immerse yourself in local food and culture and enjoy fascinating stories behind the food which are sure to entertain and delight.

Despite having become exceedingly popular and a bit crowded in recent years, Porto is worth a long visit and Ricardo made sure we would experience the city in the best possible way, with a local whose wealth of knowledge about the history of this vibrant city made it so enjoyable. The wine tasting included a visit to one of the lesser known Port Wine brands, an up and coming enterprise rooted in tradition that caters to smaller groups and allows for a personalized and fact-filled experience, coupled with some excellent wine!
