Brahmeswara Temple

Reviewed By abhinavalva - Bengaluru, India

Even though the temple is known as Brahmeshwara, the main deity is Lord Shiva. It is a classical 12th century Hoysala architecture style temple. The temple is located next to a huge lake in the Kikkeri village. The hoysalas have built several temples near Hassan-Mandya belt. The temple walls depict various avatars of hindu god Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Even though it is known that Hoysalas were followers of Vaishnavism, they have buit several temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. A must visit for history followers.

Vaidyanatheshwara Temple

Reviewed By Dhruv_TheWanderer

The temple shows hoysala workmanship housing sculptures of ganga, hoysala and vijayanagara periods. The Garbagriha is built with brick & lime. The vaideswara linga is held in high reverence. Vaidyanatheshwara is one of the five Lingams believed to represent the five faces of Shiva. Panchalinga Darshana is usually held once in 12, 7, 5 or 3 years at Talakad and depends on specific astrological calculation. But the 12 year cycle is broken depending on astrological calculation.
