I am a horse owner, and I can say that of the many commercial trail rides I've been on, this is the best! Horses were healthy, had muscle, and were extremely well trained. My group did a private two-hour tour with Domingo, his wife, and his daughter. They train the horses and even compete, so they were very knowledgeable about riding and helpful to the less experienced people in our group. The tour itself is incredible because it traverses so much different terrain - field, forest, beach, etc. And the horses are gaited, meaning they can do a very fast, yet smooth walk, so you cover a lot of ground. Booking is a bit tricky because they don't take online reservations and someone is not always at the phone. My group ended up calling/texting a few times, but it was worth the hassle. Highly recommend this tour!

Hacienda La Esperanza

Follow the historical trajectory of Hacienda La Esperanza Nature Reserve in Manati, one of Puerto Rico’s most prosperous sugar plantations during the 19th Century, where the main driving force behind sugar production was slavery. During this tour, you will visit the different structures that make up La Esperanza’s Historical Site, including the Sugar Mill and its unique 1861 West Point Foundry steam engine. Spaces are limited, please reserve in advance online or by phone. Facilities for the handicapped are limited because of uneven terrain.

Playa Mar Chiquita

Reviewed By DrSoulpr - San Juan, Caribbean

I’ve visited this beach many times in the past but today it was the first time snorkeling and it was ok. I suggest you visit before 11am because early in the morning there is very few waves and it’s not dangerous. I suggest you DONT GO near the center closer to the open ocean because there are underwater currents and MANY PEOPLE HAVE DIED THERE. These days you can only go if you are doing some kind of exercise because of health restrictions (virus). There is no toilet or restaurant there, although sometimes there are some food trucks and a coconut truck!

CUEVAS DE LOS GOLONDRINAS is a hidden gem. A bit tricky to find it, but well worth indeed. The beach is difficult to walk on. But the cave with the Swallows is incredible.

Playa Los Tubos

This beach is FABULOUS! If you are going to PR during COVID and in/around San Juan, this is just about 40 mins. away and is desolated! Park on the side of the road and walk to beach area. We were there over xmas break and pretty much h ad the entire beach to ourselves, maybe 3 other families and a woman with a dog. There are no police so you can just relax, hang out, sunbathe and swim. However, the waves are big! This beach is for experienced swimmers only. Major undertow so be very careful and do not go in unless you know how to swim. Highly recommend this beach especially while SJU area beaches are only open for exercise.
