Things to do in Maidstone, England: The Best Nightlife

April 26, 2022 Velvet Champine

Maidstone is a large, historically important town in Kent, England, of which it is the county town. The River Medway runs through the centre of the town, linking it with Rochester and the Thames Estuary. Historically, the river carried much of the town's trade as the centre of the agricultural county of Kent, known as the Garden of England. There is evidence of settlement in the area dating back before the Stone Age. The town, part of the borough of Maidstone, had a population of 107,627 people in 2011. There has been a shift in the town's economy since the Second World War away from heavy industry towards light industry and services.

Just had to update the review on this pub. It just gets better every time we visit.Every one is so friendly and welcoming and we aren’t regulars. The Sunday roast is simply the best any where I have eaten. Well done for keeping it a pub and not making it feel like a restaurant.

If you enjoy truly excellent real ales (Goachers) then this is the pub for you. If you think most pubs charge too much for their beer, then Goacher’s Fine Light at £3 a pint is for you. If you fancy a snack to go with your beer and don’t want a full blown meal, then a crusty cheese & onion roll with some crisps at £1.50 is just for you. If you appreciate the landlord and his wife actually knowing what they’re doing rather than simply serving a yellow beverage, then you’ll like Alex and Polly. If you like lager, fruit machines, load music and rowdy hoofs then I can recommend some other pubs. What Alex and Polly have done for their customers during lockdown is impressive. A great great pub.

Ye Olde Thirsty Pig

A gem of a traditional pub/alehouse that specialises in offering customers the best of Kent. Four hand pumps offer a continually changing array of locally produced ales representing the diverse talent and imagination of Kent's finest brewers. Of the fourteen ale, lager and cider products available on tap only three are not local. Add to this the quaint age of the building with its sloping floors and lopsided walls, the friendly feel and an extremely varied jukebox (which can be varied in volume in all rooms for comfort and enjoyment), plus TV, darts and traditional pub games and then you have a very special pub. Monthly quizzes and Karaoke, two weekly poker nights (Wednesdays and Sundays) and a Warhammer Group every Saturday, occasional live music and lively fun weekends in good company reflect the magic of 'The Pig' which attracts a most diverse group of folks of all ages and leaves newcomers feeling like they have just been adopted by a big family. There is no other like it!

The First and Last is a real gem of a find...a traditional, small, super friendly pub. The landlord, Mat, will greet you with the warmest welcome, and the attention and service you receive will have you soon returning! It's lovely to find a thriving local pub, with a fantastic selection of drinks and all sorts of events for all tastes. Mat and his team will make you feel right at home! (It's an added bonus that he is single and hot!!!) I really couldn't recommend this pub more highly.

I have eaten several times in the restaurant and can only say the Thai food is outstanding and made to your preferred level of spice. The current Covid protection measures they have in place make you feel safe without spoiling the lovely atmosphere and all the staff are friendly and helpful. At the weekend we had the opportunity to try the take away service with some friends and was not disappointed to receive the same quality of food and service as you get in the restaurant. I highly recommend the Bell . Looking forward my next meal there.

Why did we not know about this place? We were invited to the quiz night and boom! What an experience. The quizmasters must be some kind of local legends although I’ve never seen them on the TV, they ought to be. What fun! And only a quid each to enter. Beer was good too but the quiz blew me away.
