Things to do in Madrid, Community of Madrid: The Best Outdoor Activities

November 22, 2021 Sheron Bogner

So many of Madrid’s buildings look like castles, you’ll think you’ve stumbled into a fairytale. Even City Hall is astounding, with its white pinnacles and neo-Gothic features. A self-guided architecture tour can begin by the great bear statue in the central Puerta del Sol. Wander by the fanciful Royal Palace before absorbing the natural beauty of Retiro Park, then visit one of the city’s many museums. You could happily cap off each day by nibbling on forkfuls of paella while sipping Spanish rioja.

Mi Bike Rio

Reviewed By MancWanderer - Manchester, United Kingdom

We decided we wanted to see more of the Casa de Campo park so went to see if we could hire some mountain bikes for a couple of hours. The bike rental building is a short walk down from the Príncipe Pío metro stop and has a good selection of bikes. The man working there spoke very good English and it was really easy and cheap to hire the bikes. We just needed to provided some ID to guarantee the bikes (we used a passport) and then away we went. The cost of the bikes was €16 in total for 2 bikes over the course of 2 hours. They provide helmets and a map of the park for free. The bikes might not look brand new but were in good condition There are extensive bike paths running through the park which will allow you to cover quite a lot of ground including some uphill bits for those who like more of a challenge.

The Madrid Zoo has one of the most successful Giant Panda breeding programs outside of China - this goes to show the pedigree of service and outstanding quality of life given to the animals living here. This experience translates into a well-run attraction that is both informative and unforgettable. The dolphin show is, of course, a must see. This zoo is one of the best!
