Things to do in Madrid, Community of Madrid: The Best Concerts & Shows

November 27, 2021 Franklyn Hardiman

So many of Madrid’s buildings look like castles, you’ll think you’ve stumbled into a fairytale. Even City Hall is astounding, with its white pinnacles and neo-Gothic features. A self-guided architecture tour can begin by the great bear statue in the central Puerta del Sol. Wander by the fanciful Royal Palace before absorbing the natural beauty of Retiro Park, then visit one of the city’s many museums. You could happily cap off each day by nibbling on forkfuls of paella while sipping Spanish rioja.

Tablao Flamenco La Fragua

La Fragua is a tablao created by artists from lineage families. It has its roots in primordial flamenco, in the tradition without compromise. And it draws on the soul of the first songs that emerged in the forges of Cadiz, Jerez and Sevilla. Of the deep, tragic and passionate zapateados of the first dancers of Andalusia. Daily passes. Purebred flamenco in the heart of Madrid.

Microteatro

Excellent comedy in a small room with good actors. Wait on the main lobby and the person in charge will ring a bell to call on your selected comedy or drama assigned on different rooms from 1 to 4. Prices are reasonable and have offers for three to four acts.

So firstly I have never been to a ‘proper’ flamenco show before as I’m sure the ones they perform in a Benidorm hotel don’t really count! Therefore I have nothing to compare it too. I loved it for the following reasons - it is a lovely small intimate theatre and when we arrived we were shown to our reserved VIP seating with an amazing view of the stage. Our ticket included a premium drink which was served accompanied by olives. The show was exactly an hour long which was long enough for a first timer. The show consisted of dance, singing and guitar playing. I have to say the guitarist was amazing and I could’ve listened to him for longer. There were just the right number of people there. The dancers were passionate about their dancing and put so much effort in that it left me in admiration of what they do. I would recommend the show to novices of flamenco to give a taste of what it’s like.
