A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lyon has 2,000 years of history imprinted on its streets (yes, the cobblestone kind). Explore this history in Vieux Lyon (one of Europe's most extensive Renaissance neighborhoods) and Lyon's two Roman amphitheatres, which still stage rock concerts today. It's no wonder Lyon is a popular area for travelers, with its dynamic university, first-class shopping, antique markets, vibrant theatre and music festivals, and a range of interesting museums, such as the International Puppet Museum and the Museum of Miniatures and Film Sets. (When we say "interesting," we mean it.)

The eight statues above the archways on the Lyon Opera House represent eight of the muses, goddesses of the arts, literature and science. Lovely indeed.

We sat down at some steps at one end of the huge square to have a rest after a long day's walking around the city. We then realised it wasn't going to be a quiet time. Dozens of youngsters on their skateboards and roller skates were busily buzzing around having lots of fun. The square was full of people but few seemed to be bothered. It ended up being quite an enjoyable time in the end. The Opera House is at one side, the City Hall is a bit further, several sculptures, and many beautiful building everywhere you look. Also there are many cafes, restaurants and other shops.
