The capital of Lower Austria since 1986 is Sankt Pölten, the most recently designated capital town in Austria. I have never heard about Carnuntum before visiting it. I was excited. No... I can't find the words to express my feelings. It is something that can bring you thinking about the time changes and about the progress of mankind. We use to think that all the time the progress is growing up, but look how large the city was in the Roman age and what is it now? Romans... Just imagine the distance from Rome! No cars, no airplanes... Just think about the differences in Climate with Rome. When I have seen the reconstructed building for the very first time I kept behind that it isn't a reality, it's just a new-made. But it's great! My imagination is not enough to reconstruct all this staff myself. But now I can see it, can touch it and much more easy can imagine how the whole city looked like in the Roman age! It's unbelievable! And when you visit the amphitheatre outside, it's much easy to understand what it was before. When visiting another amphitheatre on the way to Bad-Deutch Altenburg especially during the days of Roman festival and you can see gladiator games with your own eyes, just try to imagine how old are all these stones, how long ago people have built this... The ticket gives you an opportunity to visit this archeological park-museum in Carnuntum and other Roman ruins in the vicinity (you could also use this chance and visit the castle as soon as this park is allocated in its lands;-), the amphitheartre on the way to Bad-Deutch Altenburg and the Roman Museum in this town. If some time will left after this Roman tour I would suggest you to continue moving on along the Dune River up to the Hainburg and to visit the hill where the pre-Roman celtic settlement was found. Wrom that hill you will be able to see the castle Devin on the opposite bank and even the Bratislava castle. I visit all these places several times and definitelly will visit again.
