Things to do in Louisville, Kentucky (KY): The Best Shopping

February 10, 2022 Tambra Mccollister

Each year, horse enthusiasts hoof it to Louisville and Churchill Downs, the legendary home of the Kentucky Derby. In addition to equestrian endeavors and bluegrass roots, Louisville boasts a range of exciting attractions the whole family can enjoy. Stroll through Central Park, in the historic district, to people-watch and get a real feel for the city. Visit other nearby parks for hiking, biking and fossil finding. Baseball fans will love the Louisville Slugger Museum, a celebration of the sport's legends. The museum is easy to spot, just look for the humongous bat that leans against the building.

I happened to be in the neighborhood and they let me look at the gallery even though it is closed on Wednesday. Beautiful exhibit. I’ll be back for sure

The museum was highly recommended by some friends and so of course we had to go check it out. This location has a hotel (which we did not stay in) and a restaurant in addition to the art. I loved the variety of artistic expression, the different canvas. It was definitely a unique experience and above all, free. I look forward to visiting again but this time to go to the restaurant.

The new permanent location at 947 East Breckinridge Street is quite impressive. This weekend of February 1-2, 2020 is their grand opening. The place was packed. There is street parking and a lot behind the building that stretches all the way to the new Paristown Hall and close to The Cafe(for those interested in breakfast and lunch). The quantity and quality of items are what we have seen in larger cities such as Chicago and NYC. This is a nice addition in the old building that once housed Swan Street Antiques. For those folks who are wondering if they will no longer have the spring and fall events on the riverfront the answer is yes they will. Those events are too popular to discontinue. Usually there are more vendors at that event also. The permanent location is a good sized venue to boot.

I enjoyed Mellwood Antiques and Interiors - there was such a large selection and we spent hours browsing. The staff was very nice - answered questions and checked prices. We bought art, books, and a large pot rack. There were some booths with Kirkland-style castoffs, but the name is Mellwood Antiques and Interiors so the items that aren't antiques are definitely for interiors. There are plenty of antiques for the true antique hunter. I can't wait to go back!

What a treat! Being able to get out of the house, have some amazing lunch and grab some plants, fresh produce, fresh meat and cheese!!! Not to mention a super yummy Bloody Mary. All in one location! It was a nice break from being at home. We love this place! It’s always a great experience! We can’t wait for all of the vendors to be able to reopen. So many wonderful local vendors in one location. This makes supporting local businesses such a fun experience.
