Los Lagos Region (Spanish: Región de Los Lagos pronounced [loz ˈlaɣos], lit. Region of the Lakes) is one of Chile's 15 regions, which are first order administrative divisions, and comprises four provinces: Chiloé, Llanquihue, Osorno and Palena. The region contains the country's second largest island, Chiloé, and the second largest lake, Llanquihue.

We absolutely loved this road trip and would recommend it to anyone with an adventurous heart. No, the hotels are not great and the road conditions tend to be poor, but no one should some to this part of the world looking for luxury. This trip is 100% and the incredible natural beauty of remote Patagonia. We have been all over South America, and this is the single most incredible stretch of wilderness we have encountered, even surpassing Torres del Paine. The only gripe we had was how difficult it was to find any relevant information about the trip and what to expect. We did ours in a small 4x4 rented round trip from Puerto Montt. After driving all the way to Caleta Tortel, we returned to Coyhaique and crossed into Argentina. We then linked this trip into another week on Route 40 and the Seven Lakes before crossing back into Chile at Cardenal Samore. Absolutely a perfect adventure. A short uphill hike from the port, this church is worth the effort. All wood inside and outside, well maintained. Just on the opposite of the city's well-laid gardens. There's a small shop for souvenirs and toilers (paid).

This church is one of the UNESCO Chiloe churches and is really pretty. It has a bright yellow exterior and a fantastic wooden interior with a vaulted ceiling made using ship building techniques. It even takes the shape of an inverted ship's hull. Don't miss this church and as many other UNESCO churches as you can take in.

This small church has wonderful proportions. The color of blue of the church is similar to the sky. There are two other beautiful structures in this small village. It is worth the drive to see it.
