Things to do in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur: The Best Historical & Heritage Tours

March 27, 2022 Tonie Szymanski

Mexico's fastest growing resort area offers miles of empty desert and deserted beaches. Laid-back nightlife and old-fashioned fun in the sun is the Cabos' lure. Only certain beaches are safe for swimming, however, including Lovers' Beach and the more tempestuous and aptly named Divorce Beach. Whale watching, hang-gliding, snorkeling, antiquing, golf and fishing, Loreto's historic mission, and sport fishing and dining in capital La Paz are other attractions. SuburBaja buses travel the coast.

This walking tour was fascinating and engaging. Our guide was careful to find spots for us to sit when possible, and he paused when traffic went by, so we had no problem hearing him. There's a long version of this tour given to local high school students--I wouldn't mind having a part two so we could all have the opportunity to learn more about San Jose del Cabo.

Overall a fun adventure once we actually started driving the ATVs and our guide was great however check-in was unnecessarily stressful and difficult. They try to upsell the better ATVs and scare you into the insurance (both are totally unnecessary). Also, they did not follow what they said they included on the website though we booked through a third-party, My Cabo Experience, which owns some of the blame. Compared to other companies and what they offer, this is very overpriced.

We booked this hike for our last day in Cabo. Little did we know we would save the very best until last. What a way to remember the Baja Peninsula! From the moment we met Danny, we knew this was going to be a really fun excursion. Turns out both my husband and Danny are rock climbers and that jump started our conversation. From there, Danny shared information on Cabo, the highway we traveled to Todos Santos and the history of Todos Santos itself. After a tour of the town that included more interesting facts and history, we went to an open air restaurant he recommended and were treated to some of the best food we have had anywhere. From there we headed to the "trailhead" for the sunset hike which started from the locals fishing beach. It was refreshing to hike an area we had entirely to ourselves, learn about some of the native plants, scramble up rocks and take in the incredible vistas at the top. We made it to our destination in time to watch and listen to a colony of sea lions swimming and barking below us. Pretty sure Danny arranged that too. He was that good. (: If you can only choose one thing to do while in Cabo, make sure it's this hike!

I booked transportation and several tours through the Cabo day trip. They are very responsible and always responded very quickly. The snorkeling tour we booked was canceled because of the condition of the ocean, we took a camel ride tour instead. It was more interesting than I expected, and my daughter loved it especially because we could see various animals.I recommend this if you have small children.

Christian was very knowledgeable and a wonderful guide! Each of the markets were different and enjoyable. However, my favorite was the first market, which is where the local's shop! Then you get the added experience of enjoying an authentic Mexican breakfast. Christian walks you through the menu in detail and explains each of the drinks and dishes. Then once you can't decide what to try he makes the best recommendations to ensure that you get to try each of the different types. Be sure to come hungry! On the walk to the next market, we also got to try some Mexican candy...yummy! I highly recommend this tour!
