Things to do in London, England: The Best Spas & Wellness

October 13, 2021 Weston Hennigan

The crown jewels, Buckingham Palace, Camden Market…in London, history collides with art, fashion, food, and good British ale. A perfect day is different for everyone: culture aficionados shouldn't miss the Tate Modern and the Royal Opera House. If you love fashion, Oxford Street has shopping galore. For foodies, cream tea at Harrod’s or crispy fish from a proper chippy offers classic London flavor. Music and book buffs will love seeing Abbey Road and the Sherlock Holmes Museum (at 221B Baker Street, of course).

The Bath House - Russian Banya

Located opposite Buckingham Palace, The Bath House - Russian Banya blends the traditions of the authentic Russian banya with the best of the contemporary spa. The Bath House comprises a large Public Banya and a dining area serving traditional, home-made Russian food and drink. The Private Banya offers the same facilities but is for more intimate gatherings. We offer a variety of treatments including traditional parenie with a venik massage, organic body scrubs, wraps, soap massage and classic massage, as well as packages and gift vouchers.

We booked the private room for my birthday and it has to be one of the most memorable evenings I have had in a long time. I have been to lots of banyas in Russia and I think that the Bath House has brilliantly recreated the atmosphere of an authentic sauna - it feels like going to Russia and back in one evening without the visa-hassle! The parenie (steaming) treatment with the beating was wonderful - the latter is an art-form and the banshiki (banya masters) were very professional. I had a fabulous massage too. We then gathered around the table to drink vodka, beer or tea accompanied by delicious Russian food - my favourites being the herring and beetroot salad (Selyodka Pod Shuboy which literally translates as herring under fur coat) and the Pelmeni (Siberian dumplings). We have some fabulous photos of us all wearing the sauna hats, which never fail to make me laugh. It really was an unforgettable night and as soon as it re-opens, I am going straight back!

My husband and I had child free day and decided to see if we could do something special. We rang up the Espa spa at the Corinthia Hotel on the day, on the off chance to see if they might have space for us and we were delighted that they were able to accommodate us. We had heard so many good things and it really does live up to it’s reputation as being the best spa in London. I had a massage by a wonderful therapist called Zara which was blissful. I felt really taken care of during the whole treatment. The oils were truly divine, and I felt so relaxed. Afterwards we made good use of the spa facilities which were out of this world and felt very luxurious. I loved the steam room, sauna, pool and bubble pool. It is really spacious and clean and I loved the little touches of fruit and nuts, lovely teas and sleep pods to lie in and chill after treatments or the spa. I can definitely recommend it and I can’t wait until we can book in again. It really surpassed all expectation. If you are thinking of treating yourself or are in need of a break this is it!
