Mostly commoners believe that meaning of name “Lonavala” is resting pieces of stones. There are various secret home-guarded delicacies and the place is famous for many things. The most renowned and affectionately loved is the sweet slab known as “Chikki”. The bites are crunchy, sweet and various organic flavors are a replenishing treat to our taste buds.

Karla and Bhaja Caves are located near Lonavala in Maharashtra. There is also a waterfall near the cave known as the Bhaja Waterfall. Lohagad and Visapur forts are not far from these caves. Karla Cave is the largest Hinayana Buddhist chaitya (temple) in India built during Satavahana's rule. Karla is the best example of rock-cut architecture. It takes nearly 20 minutes to climb up the steep way of the Karla caves. Enjoy Beautiful Scenery of the Amazing Mumbai-Pune Expressway en-route Lonavla. Explore Karla caves and Bhaja caves and after that visit Bhaja Waterfall for amazing Pictures. 9. Day Trip Experience to Lonavala hill Station with caves and Forts from Mumbai

Mystical Mumbai

After pick–up from your hotel in Mumbai, travel roughly 3 hours in an air-conditioned private vehicle to reach Karla around 10:00 am. Take a walk through the impressive site, ascending 200 steep steps to reach the caves, excavated thousands of years ago from a hillside in the Western Ghats in Maharashtra. The rock-cut shrines were developed for Buddhist monks to use during the monsoons. They featured chaityas (prayer halls) with intricate carvings, the largest of the rooms measures 148 feet and was created in the 1st century B.C. After exploring the caves, take a break to purchase lunch at a restaurant of your choice. Then head to the Bhaja caves, another religious site near the Karla Caves. At the end of a full day, drive back to your Mumbai hotel where your tour ends with a hotel drop off.

Untouched with the modern advancements, Karla is the spot that is giving tribute to Buddhism faith. One of the largest things to see is the prayer hall intricately crafted as Great Chatya Cave. It is said that they were built between 2nd and 3rd Century BC by the Buddhist monks, these caves are situated in the Aurangabad District of Maharashtra, quite near to the Bhaja Caves. These caves exist amidst a range of hills near Lonavala (20 km). Karla serves as a fascinating weekend destination on the Pune-Mumbai highway, approximately 40 km from the heart of Pune.
