Slovenia, wedged between Austria and Italy, has always been proud of its unique heritage. The capital, Ljubljana, is a perfect example of this blend of German, Mediterranean, and Slovenian culture. The old town is a blend of Baroque, Renaissance, and Art Nouveau buildings, watched over by a medieval castle. Cut through the gardens of Tivoli Park to the National Museum of Contemporary History for a history of modern Slovenia, featuring crumbled statues of Stalin and a recreation of a WWI trench.

The waterway that most of us see and admire during our visit to Ljubljana is the Ljubljanica River Canal. All that picturesque embankments you walk on, all that famous bridges -Dragon, Butcher’s, Triple, etc.-are crossing the water, are on the canal. The part of Ljubljanica River that flows through the historical center of Ljubljana tamed and with paved riversides, with all of these alfresco cafes and restaurants, the famous embankments where we’re walking on, sitting on, the river where we can have boat rides, all part of the Canal. Without this attraction, the city would lose much of its appeal. Capitals are not built on rivers in vain, and not just economic benefits. People have always been attracted to rivers, and the proximity of water increases their sense of comfort. Ljubljana is no exception. The Ljubljanica River Canal, flourishing in the beautiful autumn colors with its magnificent coasts, has forever drawn into my heart.

A visit to the ZOO is always a good idea. At our ZOO, the native and more exotic animals inhabit the natural surroundings of the park Tivoli-Rožnik-Šišenski hrib environment. ZOO Ljubljana not only offers a cosy up-close view of over 500 animals, but also various animal adventures or simply a nice opportunity to observe sea lions, big cats, giraffes, meerkats and other animals at feeding times. If you grab your night time camping gear, you can even spend the night here on certain dates! The ZOO also offers a truly awesome playground for the children, as well as a place to relax for their parents and other visitors. The dogs are welcome too. We provide a free parking space, but you can also get to the ZOO by Ljubljana city bus number 18 or 18L. The ZOO is open every day of the year!
My husband and I are from Australia and we visited here because I love animals and had read good things about the treatment of animals here so I wanted to go. It was a rainy day when we went, but the animals were still out to greet us which was awesome and a bonus was there were not many people so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. We watched the Asian elephant get fed and her keepers were very kind to her, giving her pats and talking to her which was lovely to see. They did put 2 chains around her (one on her front and one on her rear) ankles, but I assumed this was for safety and the chains were not put on harshly or tightly. They also checked and washed her mouth, ears and eyes and washed all her feet. There were about 4 steep hills to walk up but it was not anything too drastic. My favourite animals to see were the tigers because one of the zoo keepers came up to the glass and was calling to the male tiger, the tiger came up to the glass and started smooshing the glass like a house cat would to its human. It made me very happy to see the animals were treated so kindly. I would absolutely recommend this as an attraction. Kids would love it as there are about 4 different playgrounds throughout the zoo.

It is a nice big square in the center of Ljubljana. There are around a lot of interesting an famous buildings like the Slovenian Phiharmonic Hall, the University or the Ursuline Church of the Holy Trinity. Also the statue Kip Emonec is there. A part of the square is formed as a green park with a Pavillion and big trees. Once in Ljubljana, you should have been there.
