Things to do in Lima, Lima Region: The Best Gift & Specialty Shops

March 24, 2022 Alice Mieles

Lima, founded by Francisco Pizarro in 1535, is a fascinating city and a treasure trove of history. Explore ancient Incan archeological sites, or stroll through the elegant cathedrals and opulent palaces dating from Spanish colonial times. Downtown Lima is crowded, but you'll enjoy exploring the city's neighborhoods—especially the beachfront areas, which have great shopping and dining and fabulous hotels.

Me and my wife (then fiancée) were planning to get married during a trip around the world. We wanted to source as much as we could on the go, to give the wedding a true traveller theme. We found Sissai on tripadvisor and were very encouraged by the great reviews. We quickly exchanged a few emails with Ximena, who speaks great English, and scheduled a visit to their Lima shop. She, her sister and their employee were incredibly welcoming and helpful! We were able to explain exactly what we wanted, and their suggestions helped refine the idea even more. They had the rings ready for us by the time we returned to Lima, after a week and a half exploring Peru, and we were stoked to see them! Ximena made extra sure the fit and finish were perfect for us on both rings. We couldn't have been happier. My ring is plain, but you can really see the perfection of its finish when you look closely. My wife's was inspired by an elegant Sissai design with tasteful detailing. Both caused a sensation among our friends and family. On top of everything, our rings are made from ethically sourced gold from sustainable mining operations. I absolutely recommend Sissai to anyone in the region who is looking for tasteful, elegant jewelry and needs to communicate in English. Thank you Sissai!

If you love chocolate, or coffee, or chocolate AND coffee, don't miss a visit to El Cacaotal. Flavor bombs, a selection of wonderful flavorless and pairings, a PhD level of expertise, deep familiarity with their sources and a welcoming atmosphere makes this tiny shop like a visit to one of Harry Potter's Diagon Alley shops - maybe the wand-maker.
