On 9th May 1848 Parliament passed a private act to allow for common land owned by the church to be awarded to the then Leighton Buzzard Urban District Council “as a place of recreation for the inhabitants of Leighton Buzzard and the neighbourhood”. In 1974 the land transferred ownership from the Urban District Council to the newly formed Parish Council of Leighton-Linslade, who retain ownership today. Over 400 acres of woodland, heathland and meadows for all to enjoy, with heronry visible from the Visitor Centre providing a secure breeding ground for around ten pairs of grey herons each spring. Woodland walks with fairy trail, Giant's Chair, family cycling and horse-riding routes, dogs welcome. Tree Tops cafe situated in the Visitor Centre. We run a number of events throughout the year - see our website for details. Rushmere Country Park is managed by The Greensand Trust on a not for profit basis - all funds raised are invested into the running of the park.
This place is great for all ages, couples, friends and families. Easy access to the car park which has a fair few spaces. There are lots of different walking routes, with beautiful scenery. There is a cafe at the start and also a cafe further down the route if you head towards the river/lake. (Toliets as well) Best time to visit is obviously on a sunny day, and after lunch time! Mornings are always super busy. Car park is not free and is payable on exit

Tiddenfoot Waterside Park is a disused quarry once owned by the London Brick Company sending sand to building sites all over England. Quarrying began here in the 1920s and ceased in the 1960s since then wildlife and plants have reclaimed the site into what is now there today. Tiddenfoot Waterside Park is owned by Central Bedfordshire Council and managed on a day-to-day basis by the Greensand Trust all overseen by The Friends of Tiddenfoot Waterside Park a group formed in 2011 and pivotal in securing the Parks Community Green Flag Award. The Park now contains a lake, areas of semi-improved acid and neutral grassland, scrub, woodland and a popular plantation. At approximately 13.4 ha, the park is roughly triangular in shape and is bordered on the east by the Grand Union Canal. The site is a designated County Wildlife Site. The site plays host to the annual Leighton Linslade Canal Festival arranged by Leighton Linslade Town Council and there are events throughout the year. Fishing on the lake is under a lease with the Leighton Buzzard Angling Club.
