Lazio (UK: /ˈlætsioʊ/, US: /ˈlɑːtsioʊ/; Italian: [ˈlatsjo]; Latin: Latium) is one of the 20 administrative regions of Italy. Situated in the central peninsular section of the country, it has almost 5.9 million inhabitants – making it the second most populated region of Italy (after Lombardy and just a little ahead of Campania) – and its GDP of more than 170 billion euros per annum means that it has the nation's second largest regional economy. The capital of Lazio is Rome, which is also Italy's capital and the country's largest city.

What a fantastic tour! I really wanted a family-friendly option to bring the Colosseum and Forum to life for my 7yo and I don't think I could have done better than choose this tour with Simona - she turned everything into a game (quite literally with points for spotting different things, getting answers correct and finally a prize at the end) and while nothing was dumbed down, she made sure that it was all on the right level for the kids to understand, very engaging and very fun. There's a big different between a tour guide who wants to lead family tours and one who carries out a standard tour with kids tagging along - I've done enough of the latter to know what a fabulous guide Simona was, and definitely one of the former. It would have been lovely to have had a bit longer with her in the Forum, but as we had already spend slightly more than the planned 2 1/2 hours (mostly in and around the Colosseum), I think it would have been too much for the kids to make it longer and I'd have hated to miss any of the Colosseum. In February the queues weren't too long but getting to skip through in the group entrances with her was still a definite bonus, and in busier months, it would make a huge difference with younger ones. I can't recommend her enough and would definitely book a tour again if we go back to Rome.

The place is huge and very interesting. I wish I could have read all the explanations on all the items, but I would still be there today. If you like science it is a very interesting place to go and you can stay there for hours and hours to try and see everything. It ends up being a little tiring, especially if you have to walk to go to other places. We were unable to see everything because the place closed at 12 or 13 (we thought it would close later) and we were leaving the city after this attraction.

A lovely lady called Gulia took my husband and I on a walk round Rome sampling food and drink from various shops and a superb pasta lunch. If you are going todo this tour I advise you not to eat much beforehand as we finished the tour around 2:00pm and did not eat another thing all day. We had meats and cheese with some wine to start off with and then followed this in a picturesque market square with tasting various oils and vinegars. Roman Pizza and beer were next, followed by a delicious lunch of two different types of pasta. Then followed dessert of either cannoli or tirimisu at another stop off point, ice cream and coffee to finish. Never felt so full. Guila was full of interesting conversation about her city. All in all a great day out ending at the Trevi fountain.

Do you think that you might want to skip the line to see the Colosseum AND have a tour guide who is an archeologist? Then book this tour! Our guide, Paola, was very informative & we thoroughly enjoyed the tour with her. The pace of the tour was perfect, we had plenty of time at all of the locations included in the tour.. Paola is passionate about Italy & archeology, this made the tour so valuable. When we were leaving the Colosseum admittance was on hold (only a certain number of people are allowed inside at a time) so we were glad that we had done the skip the line tour.

We paid twice the price for skip the line tickets then proceeded to pay another €20 for a tour while inside the Colosseum. The tour guide was great - really knowledgeable with brilliant anecdotes that brought the site to life - however the tour lasted just 30 minutes. We were also guided to the Forum/Palatine Hill which was really helpful. The staff were very friendly but I feel that the experience was slightly overpriced for what we received.
