Cumbria's valleys and fells (as the low mountains are known) are home to idyllic villages, high moorlands and picturesque lakes. Literary buffs will enjoy Wordsworth's Dove Cottage (go in March to see daffodils), and if you've got kids in tow, visit The World of Beatrix Potter. Or just enjoy a leisurely drive through beautiful scenery.

At Orton Farmers' Market over 35 local farmers, growers, producers & artisan craftsmen offer a tremendous variety of high quality and speciality local produce and crafts. What makes Orton special? Orton Farmers' Ltd (which is our trading name) is a member of FARMA and we operate within their guidelines. The market is certified (by annual inspection) with FARMA credentials and run strictly in accordance with the farmers' market principles. Orton Farmers' Market is a third of the Eden Farmers Market Network
We have been using Orton for years, and it never disappoints - not even when it is closed due to Coronavirus. Waking up to this fact late, I placed orders for chicken and lamb on Good Friday and took delivery on Easter Saturday. Delivery AND smiles! Local food, local people, local happiness.... Thank you, team Orton!

situated in the beautiful Eden Valley with close proximity to the M6 the school is set in a modern country house surrounded by 8 acres of garden and pastureland. The teaching kitchen enables each student to have their own work station, whilst still retaining a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere where you are able to improve your skills and techniques. The courses are many and varied.
So, this time me and my two foodie friends completed the One Pot Wonders course with the amazing Pat Russell. A demo day which means Pat prepares and cooks several dishes in the morning (with lots of tips, laughs and tastings), a fabulous lunch, then we made one of those dishes in the afternoon to bring home. This time it was Chicken and Apple Casserole - quite simply a dream of a dish, hearty and so flavoursome. The hubster and I thoroughly enjoyed the fruits of my labours for our dinner tonight.... 9th visit, I think that fact says it all. These course are so good, informative, and all do-able back at home. All recipes, tips and a great 2 course lunch are included plus the fun factor and great time spent with like minded people who enjoy cooking and/or baking. Thank you again Pat, see you again I am sure. X

My wife (Judy) and I have just enjoyed a fantastic tour of the Keswick Brewery and tasting. Our host, Nigel, was quite superb. So enthusiastic and informative and so welcoming. An excellent visit and the samples of the ales were delicious. Can’t recommend this tour more. Only regret is that the beer is only sold in Cumbria but understandable. Can’t wait to return and sample some more and see the new Fox Tap bar open. Thanks Nigel and good luck from Tony and Judy Hodge of Salisbury.

Zoe and Andrew are excellent hosts. Even before we arrived I was emailing Zoe with one question or another and she answered immediately and was very helpful. There were 5 of us for the gin distillery tour and afternoon tea. Andrew was very informative explaining how they started the company and how the gin is made. As many ingredients as possible are sourced locally. The gins we had were really good, my favourite being the fancy frolic. Then came afternoon tea. Oh my, Zoe had pulled out all the stops. The presentation was stunning, sandwiches tasty and all the cakes were home made. She even made a birthday cake for my friends birthday and provided candles. We had a lovely few hours there and I would highly recommend it. Thanks to you both and I really hope your business flourishes. Please note everyone, they also give money to various charities.

Much needed chill out With my wife and our cocker spaniel we opted for a two night stay Wednesday and Thursday The room was small but perfect for our needs No 8 staff here are first class very polite and keen to assist . the bar has a very well stocked range of in house brewed ales and the usual lagers and spirits seating outside comfortable and pleasant and the table service is top notch ,the food they refer to as Bar Meals, Really? Not my interpretation of a bar meal, the food is a cut above the normal bar meal in my honest opinion freshly cooked and decent portions and a decent choice on the menu breakfast is another success full English freshly cooked and not tight on portion sizes either. what I like is the place has great choice of beers great food great staff, its just got this great vibe locals and visitors just enjoying the place its a really good location you could easily walk into bowness approx 2 miles via a path/cycle route that runs alongside the main road yes not ideal I get that but its easy for anyone wanting to cut out the need for driving round and round Bowness looking for a parking space you could also leave the watermill and take the first left before you get to the main road and follow the road up this leads to many different walking routes , again its easy even for a push chair you could easily do a loop without having to walk on rough terrain. Thanks to all staff and locals alike look forward to returning in 2021 Give this place people

We visited the hawkshead beer festival in July as a party of 4. This beer festival is held twice yearly in the village of Steverley in Cumbria, and in my opinion is a must do event for real ale drinkers with over 80 different beers on tap. We had a fantastic day at the festival, and managed to sample over 20 different beers, some nice and some not so nice!!. There were live bands playing throughout the day, adding to the chilled atmosphere. There was also various food stations around the venue selling a variety of cuisines. Great day out, this is the second time we have been and will try and return in 2019.
