Capser Trail

Reviewed By SmileUpNorth - Bayfield, United States

This is a beautiful easy, level trail that is fun in any season -- it's a groomed cross-country ski and snowshoe trail in winter. Walk through forest, and stop to view wetlands from an observation deck. There are benches along the trail for resting. A little over 2 miles round-trip, with the option of doing the somewhat wilder .85 mile offshoot Nucy Meech trail.

North End Trails

Reviewed By SmileUpNorth - Bayfield, United States

The North End Trails are wilderness trails that have been reclaimed from old survey lines and logging roads. Cross country skiers, snowshoers, hunters, hikers, blueberry pickers and nature enthusiasts enjoy these trails, which consist of two different loops that range from 3 ¾ miles to 7 miles long. The trails are marked with blazes. In spring, summer and fall, these trails can be wet, and the terrain is uneven and sometimes boggy. Hikers are advised to wear appropriate footwear and protective clothing, and perhaps bring a walking stick. Insect repellent is also advisable. Hikers should know how to follow trail markings and be comfortable hiking primitive trails. Note that cell phone service is sketchy, or non-existent, on this end of the island. The Madeline Island Wilderness Preserve usually sponsors a couple of guided hikes on these trails in autumn.

Big Bay Town Park

Beautiful public beach, scenic overlook into Big Bay Lagoon.

Reviewed By NicolieEats - Hayward, United States

On a whim, we decided to go camping for the weekend of Fourth of July. We called several campgrounds along the north shore but most of the campgrounds were already full. Thankfully, Rand at Big Bay Town Park offered to place us on a wait list....several hours later he called back to say that there was one available! Not only was the campground host friendly and helpful but the grounds and facilities were beautiful and well-kept! Bathrooms clean, quiet at nighttime, and safe-feeling! We loved that we could walk down to the beach right from the campground or take a quick 6 mile drive with our motorcycle to town for breakfast. Madeline Island is a gem with lots to do - you just have to look for it! Can’t wait to go back!

Took ferry over from Bayfield and was very pleased to find this bike rental shop. Very friendly and helpful staff, efficient too! I appreciated the fact they charged only for time on bike and didn’t round up to next hour. Would definitely recommend and use again.
