Saga-Arashiyama Museum of Arts & Culture is opened in November 1st, 2018. The main exhibition changes 4 times per year. Currently we hold "We Love Arashiyama" exhibition which show you various Japanese paintings from the 17th to the 19th century associated with the area. The permanent exhibition is about Hyakunin Isshu (one hundred poets, one poem each), which is the most famous anthology of Waka poems, that was born in Arashiyama. The cafe "Arashiyama OMOKAGE Terrace" facing a calm garden is a hidden gem, where you can have a light lunch and drinks. The cafe can be used without admission fee. Admission Fee: Adults (Above 18 years old) 900 yen High School Students (16 to 18 years old) 500 yen Younger Students (7 to 15 years old) 300 yen

This gem of a museum has *working* pieces of intricately engineered music boxes, mostly Swiss, French, and German, dating back to the 1700s. The tour is an absolute must, and it is very impressive how well kept the museum pieces are, and how accurately they render elaborate music compositions from earlier centuries.
