KwaZulu-Natal (/kwɑːˌzuːluː nəˈtɑːl/; also referred to as KZN and known as "the garden province") is a province of South Africa that was created in 1994 when the Zulu bantustan of KwaZulu ("Place of the Zulu" in Zulu) and Natal Province were merged. It is located in the southeast of the country, enjoying a long shoreline beside the Indian Ocean and sharing borders with three other provinces and the countries of Mozambique, Swaziland and Lesotho. Its capital is Pietermaritzburg and its largest city is Durban. It is the 2nd most populous province in South Africa, with slightly fewer residents than Gauteng.

So many times I've threatened to drive the 'old road' to Kzn, South Coast and in particular the R103- the Midlands Meander. Driving at a leisurely pace to take in all the surrounding beauty, we came across MERRAKESH CHEESE. The owner walked to the shop and greeted us as we arrived, advising we are about to spend the next 20 to 30 minutes tasting their offering of cheeses. The gastrnomic tour included how and when cheeses are made, flavoured, what's added, when, why they opt to live here and more. All exceptionally interesting. In the end we left knowing a little more about the cheese making process. At the end we drove out with our selection of MERRAKESH cheese, that we would savour and eat while watching the ocean from our balcony. Next time take a turn off the N3 and be sure to make this stop in the Rosetta area, part of your journey.

What a lovely place in the middle of the sugar cane plantations. I love that a family took it upon themselves to open a haven like this for animals that need to be rescued and looked after. The staff is very capable and love what they do. Keep up the good work and may you go from strength to strength.

My husband, myself and our two children enjoyed the most wonderful 2hr outride with Ushaka. The horses were well looked after and the guides were experienced. We saw beautiful sights, dismounting at the top of a hill to take in the beauty of the mountains around us. We saw amazing birds of prey and even an owl protecting her nest. We so enjoyed the experience, I went back a week later with my sister, enjoying another exciting outride. I highly recommend Ushaka Horse Trails and the capable couple that run it.

We are an educational animal farm where the kids get to learn about our animals while they have fun interacting with them. We also have a lovely little tea garden with a small but yummy menu - and there is fresh cake baked in our kitchen on the weekends.
