2. Kronstadt-fortress and the sea gates of the city

Tetra Spb

Our unusual city located in the delta of the Neva River is built on 42 islands. So it is written in all the guidebooks. And it's true, but not really! Because there is another island about which the founder of the city Peter 1 wrote "Guard Kronstadt more than your life, do not keep it, Petersburg will fall!" A small island located in the Gulf of Finland drew the attention of Peter in 1704. On all sides, except for one-southern, it is  surrounded by shallow depths. . And  only in one place nature itself came to Peter for help, where is deep (17 m) and narrow (200 m) deepening on the seabed represents the only possible passage for ships to this day! It was here that the tsar built the first fort, and it was in this way that from 1704 to this day the enemy's foot did not go to St. Petersburg. This tour is for those who love history and the sea!

3. Russian maritime glory, Kronshtadt, Oranienbaum, Peterhoff

St. Pete walking tours in English by Ribin Igor

We would visit places, that are closely connected with Russian maritime history from the time of Peter I, who laid the foundation of Russian navy base on the Kronshtadt island to WWII when the Baltic Fleet was fighting Nazi Germany. We'll start from from the Peterhof, which was conceived by Peter the Great not only as sea front official imperial residence but as a gigantic monument, commemorating the victory over the Swedish empire and triumph over nature itself. And we will continue our tour along the coast line to Oranienbaum and Kronshtadt island by a dam. We would be ariving from St.Petersburg by hydrofoil boat to catch the view of the palaces and fountains complexes from the watter, as it was intended by Peter himself. After going through upper garden we continue on land to next imperial residences, built in Oranienbaum. And we finish our tour in Kronshtadt, where we will be visiting Big Navy Cathedral, forts, first city port area, Peter I's dry dock and lighthouse.

We booked for the Swan Lake ballet on 25 December 2019, with travel date on 24 May 2020, through U Visit Russia. . Due to the Covit19 pandemic we were unable to visit Russia nor attend the ballet. Two tickets were purchased for US$465.50. U Visit Russia was advised of not being able to attend and agreed to pay a full refund but there would be a delay due to the number of cancellations. After some time no refund was forthcoming and U Visit Russia was again contacted by email and we were advised that due to the volume of cancellations the refund would be credited to our credit card within 9 weeks. Nothing and again they were contacted by email but no response was ever received. No refund was ever received. Nothing!! The lesson is to beware of ever dealing with this company.

Private tour to the military port city in Russia located near St. Petersburg, which became open to visitors only in 1996 Kronstadt is an unusual suburb of St. Petersburg. Located on the island of Kotlin in the Gulf of Finland, the city throughout its history served as the sea shield of St. Petersburg and the capital of the Baltic Fleet of Russia. It was here that the world’s first icebreaker was built. Kronstadt is simply fascinating. Subtle atmosphere of the port city, strict canal lines, the magnificent Naval Cathedral. Most recently, Kronstadt could be reached only with a special pass, today it is one of the most beautiful historical districts of St. Petersburg, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
