Get set for Kolkata’s finest food tour. Greet your guide as the sun sets and take the subway up to the intellectual heart of the city. Here the Bengal revolutionary fighter Subhas Chandras Bose is more famous than Gandhi and the people are passionate about their rights and independence, not to mention their food. The evening starts at a little street vendor that blends up one of the district's best tropical lasses. Afterwards, you'll hop from spot to spot tasting some fine Bengali fare - expect jumbo prawns covered in fragrant coconut milk curry, onion bahjis from a revolutionary food stand, succulent chicken curries and a range of Bengali sweets to name just a few. Finish at one of the oldest colonial coffee houses in Kolkata where nearby university students descend for intellectual discussions.

This was an amazing tour. Avid took us through the heart of Kolkata and to some local destinations and food outlets that no would be able to find on their own. The food was incredible, but the tour extended beyond this with Avik showing us what authentic local life is like in Kolkata both now and in the past. He also enhanced the tour through his sharing of local knowledge, customs, and culture. He even ensured we were sorted in our travel from the tour as we had a flight to catch soon after. I would highly recommend this tour. 10 stars!
Staying in cottages or huts, fishing, small walks, cooking, learning local handicrafts or simply doing nothing are some of the options travellers ask for. Some basic facilities are being extended to guest which may not confirm to facilities with other International tourism standards but promises the factual village & rural life of Bengal and 70% of India, with some form of adventure for the guests. There are number of such home stay facilities in the region. The visit helps the economy, buying local products, buying art materials and using local villagers as guide or help. A concept fast catching up by most of our guest. Home stay is arranged and run by villagers Estate or villages or a whole village set up made specially for the guest.. It also a part of responsible tourism and ecotourism with Bird watching, Short trails, Angling, River Rafting, Clay modelling, etc are part of the stay.

We took a week trip of Calcutta , Darjeeling and a hike to small village of Tonglu in the seven days span. We wanted to walk back to the colonial days , since we were interested in the British history and heritage that is left in India. In depth knowledge of Deep while on tour gave us a good perspective of the colonial days and life. We even went to see where Job Charnock landed in Kolkata! It was totally worth a trip. Darjeeling was beautiful with it's Himalayan experience and the hike to Tonglu was amazing as we saw some of the highest mountain in the world so up close. The landscapes as well as history , they have got it all. My parents are already planning a same trip and I would definitely recommend this !
India is blessed with the largest of Himalayas range in its country. Unlike Nepal, treks and hikes here are not so crowded and gives travelers a chance to indulge more into rawness and wilderness of the greatest mountain range of the world. Here is a basic 5 Day itinerary of hiking in the grand Himalayas in eastern belt of the mountain range. This itinerary can be included or added while your visit in Kolkata , Darjeeling or Gangtok. Same trip in 3 days can be done , if air transportation is opted for. Tickets are cheap from Kolkata to siliguri in flight. Coming to this region and not tasting the happiness of climbing himalayas or getting intimate with it, might be regret , you build upon later. Hence i highly recommend this.
