The misty hills, lush teakwood and sandalwood forests, and acres of tea and coffee plantations of Kodagu are, in a word, stunning. Also known as Coorg and dubbed "The Scotland of India," Kodagu is a postcard-perfect region of scattered villages and hamlets, which are the epitome of old-world charm. Kodagu is ideal for outdoor activities such as trekking, angling and white-water rafting, and major festivals like Keil Poldu (worship of weapons), Cauvery Shankaramana (return of the river goddess) and the Huttari (harvest) festival are a huge draw.

We reached Somwarpet around 4.30 pm which didn't give us much time to go sight seeing. Our hostess suggested that Honnamma kere was our only option. It's a lake amidst the Lovely greenery and hills and a Devi temple overlooking it. It's open till 8 pm and has enough lighting to enjoy the place. It was really beautiful and a tranquil place with only a few locals visiting the temple as it was Aashada Friday. The temple has its own history which was told to us by the priest. We just sat there gazing at the Beautiful and tranquil lake. Nothing much to do. It was a good place to see though.

The falls are situated at a distance of 25 kilometres from Somwarpet.Mallalli falls - its orchestra of water, good location. The best time to visit the falls is the monsoon season as during this time the falls have plenty of water. Even the greenery around is at its best during this time. During summer season, the water of the fall almost dries down. Visiting during rainy season can be a good idea.

Google maps will take you to this temple; motorable by cars. Very nice, peaceful, serene temple to visit. Panditji does very good and long puja, we felt so nice spending time here. Cars can easily reach here, with the last road portion laid in concrete. The remaining 12 km is a mixed bag road, with most of it being readied for relaying and is broad but in stones and mud levelling phase, small portions is pretty bad and cratered. couple of viewpoints are messmerizing on the way. There is a huge tree next to the temple, also a 6 foot snake slithered in front of our car on the way...at the top there is a divergence and only 4 wheel drive vehicles go on the mud road.

Have to take local jeeps, even though expensive, to avoid messing ones own vehicle due crass roads and steep uphill drives. This is a viewpoint with a very little trek, carrying camera was worth it. A nominal 25/- was collected by the State Govt, maybe for upkeep charges. Sunrise and Sunset are the best times to visit this place. This place is best avoided during sunny/ hot weather. Also advisable not to litter.

It is a great hike with kids through the forest. The waterfall is untouched and beautiful. The only problem we faced is that Google maps stops you about 3 km away from the actual hiking spot. You can ask around and continue. The hike itself is uphill for about 2km. Jeeps can go quite near that spot but since we did not have one we chose to hike.best time is morning. It starts becoming dark at 6pm

Visited this place on 31st December 2020. A huge rocky hill covered by mist and having a temple of Shiva at its base. It was fun to scale the rocks to a certain height and feel the mist air. Recommended for Adventurists, couples, families and just about anyone. However please note to respect the temple premises and not litter.
