The star attractions of the area around Keswick are of course the Skiddaw Mountains and beautiful Derwentwater. Sports enthusiasts should plan their holiday for the month of May to take part in the Keswick Mountain Festival. If you are not a climber, you can enjoy the public parks, swimming pools and gardens of Keswick. For evening entertainment try the Theatre by the Lake or the cinema. Keswick has a superb choice of eateries that cater to all tastes.

Who doesn’t visit Cat Bells when visiting Keswick or its surrounding villages. I lovely climb with a lovely view from Newlands or ascend via Little Town to Hause Gate and also visit Maiden Moor or even do a ridge route horse show and descend via Robinson’s for the more experienced walker.

Perfect when no one else is around though it is very popular. For even better treat visit in spring may time when sun is going down and the bottom of the lake is lit up with shades and colours reflecting in the water one of the most memorable sights you can see. Halfway through the Keswick 3 peaks route and my brother and I reached this gorgeous crag. It takes you up along a steady climb with stunning views to the west of Derwent Water.

Had a lovely couple of hours walking Danny & Jasper around the Lingholm estate, our guide Natasha was very knowledgeable and super friendly, the alpacas were delightful, great weather, gorgeous scenery and beautifully kept grounds, we also booked the afternoon tea which was taken in the conservatory with a view of the walled garden and the lake, a perfect afternoon in a perfect location.

Lovely grounds open to visitors for things to do on a full day out, set in a stunning location between Skiddaw and Bassenthwaite Lake. Visitors of all ages welcome to enjoy, lakeside scenery, and peaceful gardens. The Poetry Walk links the literary connections to Mirehouse in the beautiful terraced gardens. The tranquil Bee Garden in home to plants and flowers particularly selected to entice bees and butterflies and provides plenty of space for quiet reflection.
Currently only the grounds are open to walk around. Tickets can be purchased over the road at Dodd Wood tea room (£4 per adult and you get a map with a detailed walk route and information). It’s a fairly flat loop down the drive, around the gardens, house and grounds down to the lake and back. Not too long so very inclusive for families. Fairly well maintained. The house itself isn’t much to look at from the outside but the grounds are still very much worth a visit if you would like a non-strenuous walk.

We went as a group of twelve - age range 11 months to 64 years and with a range of fitness levels. All had a great day out. We parked in the car park and visited three times in a week. Surprisingly, Wednesday was the busiest day by a long way! Some cycled the mountain bike tracks with two hiring bikes from the shop there, others walked the hiking tracks and the baby was pushed round the Zog trail by Granny! Siskins cafe is great and the outside is a lovely place to sit in the sun and recuperate with a coffee and tray bake. The adventure playground is large and spread out so doesn't feel too busy. No-one did the Go Ape this trip but it looked exciting. The views are stunning and we were blessed with a dry week. You need to be dressed for the weather and the activities but most folk I saw seemed to know what they were coming to. There is a local bus comes in if you do not have a car. A really excellet facility and well run.

A walk on the wild side just a 10 minute drive from Keswick. With the backdrop of the Skiddaw massif the emphasis is very much on conservation, education and engaging with visitors - our Keepers are keen to talk and enjoy passing on their knowledge and enthusiasm. Wander around our beautiful 24 acre parkland and see over 100 species. The magical Bird of Prey flying displays have been a regular feature since the park opened and we have gathered an eclectic mix of over 100 species from Anaconda to Zebra. The Granddad of the park is Brian the Lar Gibbon - he is the oldest in Europe and has pride of place in the centre of the park where he and his family can be seen swinging from the massive Oak tree. We are members of BIAZA and over the years we have successfully worked with Zoo stud books to breed species including Lynx, Asian Fishing Cats and Ring Tailed Lemurs to name just three.
We had a fantastic few hours here- could have done with more time actually, as so much to do and see. Setting is lovely. The animal talks were very informative. We absolutely loved the Lynx twins- such beautiful animals, never seen them up close before. Their enclosure is really and justly for them, plenty of undergrowth and hiding places as they are shy, but the keeper feeds them near the fence so they can be looked at. Wonderful birds of prey display- very informative, and funny, the keeper kept everyone entertained and the birds were swooping over our heads. You can tell their handler loves these birds. Great play area for older children, agree could be more for smaller ones but there is soft play near the reptile enclosure. Loved the meerkats. Good shop. Cafe extremely busy, and food okay. Highly recommend. Best on a dry day as everything outside except for reptiles.
