We live here and have never visited. We took our parents thinking they would like the historical part of the tour - and THEY LOVED IT. But although we thought we would like it, we had no idea how much we would love it too! It was one of the best things we have done in a long time. It's NOT just a museum as you think of it. It has the best and most interesting pieces of history on display and the owner who gives you the tour is incredibly knowledgeable about the things you really care about. He fully researched who first owned it, and how they used it. Typically there are pictures from the original owners and inventors. And he knows the details of how it works and nitty-gritty facts that we really liked to know about. We spent 2 1/2 hours and it felt like 1 hour. Normally I would get bored but this was unlike any other museum I have visited. It's impossible to explain how great it is, so just go and check it out! It's by donation, and we left a big donation, because it was so darn awesome. You have to make an appointment and they close for the winter, but check it out in the spring/summer for sure. I am so grateful to the owners who have obviously put so much effort into making this a great experience. Thank you so very, very much!!!! It's not just cars (or horseless carriages) either. There are many other turn of the century inventions such as talking machines, knitting machines, bicycles, etc.

This is a unique experience! This is not JUST a movie theatre- it is 5 unique theatres, where the seats, curtains, wall adornments were saved from old theatres that were torn down! Take a trip back in time- not just in the theatres themselves but in the winding hallways that connect them. Keith Stata has displayed a myriad of memorabilia flowing back through the decades. Be regaled by the movie posters of yesteryear and marvel at the most extensive collection of movie projectors that you’ll ever see! Plan time to visit this museum before your movie! This is one of the places YOU MUST SEE when visiting in North Kawartha Lakes or Halliburton. Located on highway 121, just north of Kinmount.

Check the museum's website for hours and details regarding statutory holidays. Please note that the last tour of the day leaves reception approximately one hour before closing.
A friend was up from the city. When I listed off local places of interest, she choose the Olde Gaol Museum- not a place on my radar and I have lived in the area for many years. I am so glad she made that choice. We had a fascinating afternoon at the museum. Such interesting local history. When you arrive you are given a tour guide who will cater the tour to you- all for 5 bucks! The cells each had different stories and history to study. There is something magical about learning history right in the historical setting. I can't wait to introduce more of my friends to this great little gem of a museum. The only drawback is the tentative hours. I went back afterwards on a Saturday afternoon in the Fall with my nephew only to find it closed with a sign informing us of a number to call.
