Things to do in Kauai, Hawaii (HI): The Best Gear Rentals

July 9, 2021 Tonie Szymanski

Relaxing and pristine Kauai (the Garden Island) is the least commercially developed of the Hawaiian islands. Waterfalls, scenic drives and more than 60 beaches dot the landscape. Some beaches have great snorkeling, others offer child-friendly tidal pools and some are perfect for all kinds of water sports. Dry-land activities include hiking the Kalalau Trail on the Na Pali coastline, taking a day trip to Waimea Canyon and experiencing life on a sugar plantation at Grove Farm Homestead Museum.

Mike and Janie were incredibly helpful and friendly as we were planning activities throughout our trip. I wish everyone we encountered were as wonderful as they were! Their gear is great quality, and they gave us numerous recommendations for snorkel areas, hikes, kayak tips, and other ways to explore the island. So grateful we walked into their shop! Looking forward to coming back the next time we’re in Kauai.

Kauai Mopeds

Kauai Mopeds was super friendly & the ride was great. I called in the morning & they were able to get the ride to me very quickly same day. The fact that they drop off the ride & pick it up when you are done is super convenient. Quick & painless. I would suggest bringing your rain gear or asking them for a jacket. They supply a half helmet but you will need eye ware. I rented the Lance Cabo 200cc & it was perfect for the solo traveler. Very smooth ride. Plenty of giddyup & there weren't any speed limits above 50mph so I was easily able to get around the whole island. I also made it up Waimea canyon & did a lot of hiking around Kauai, zero problems getting to trailheads, & of course, always somewhere to park! This was a rugged & powerful scooter that did the job well.
