Dating from at least the 10th century, today Kassel is most famous internationally as the home of Documenta, an every-five-years exhibition of modern and contemporary art. In the late 17th century Kassel received a large influx of Huguenot refugees from France. During the 1800s, it became the capital of the Brothers Grimm's Fairy Tale Route. In 1943, the city was virtually razed by British bombers, leaving few old sights, but the 18th-century Wilhelmshöhe Castle overlooking the city remains.

Having grown up in Ireland I can say this place is really good. It has live music, a lot of different drinks and beers available on the menu and really friendly staff. A lot of the patrons always seem to be having a good time, the only thing that caught me off guard was the table service, thats REALLY unusual in an Irish Pub, but that's alright. Nice touch actually, usually back home you have to wrestle your way up to the bar on a busy night. It mislabeled Black velvet as something else, so if you go there and order a black velvet you're not gonna get Guinness and Champagne. It also has a drink on the Menu called Black & Tan, which if you know the history of Ireland that's like opening a German Kniepe and having a drink called Nazi (which some place do). But none of that really bothered me was just a bit of quirky info. Overall as a newcomer to Kassel it's a great place to meet people and make new friends. I spoke to university students out partying, some guys just chilling having some beers and a lovely couple in their 30's out having a date night and few drinks who wanted to practice their English. It's a really fun and friendly place and all the staff that served us were really nice and had awesome english. They were also really patient with me when I tried ordering in German (and messed it up several times). I wanted to go again before I left but sadly didnt have the time. Will return again when I go back to Kassel in a few months to get drunk again. Added bonus for students and travellers! They have free WiFi!
