La Fortaleza

Reviewed By macabstract - Blandford Forum, United Kingdom

Firstly the practical details: this tequila tour is by appointment only, and it is generally necessary to email a couple of weeks in advance if you want to secure a visit. Alternatively, you can call just before and you might be lucky - oh, and it helps if you can speak Spanish when booking! This tour is very special: it gives an intimate insight into every detail of the tequila making process, from the harvesting of the agave plant through to the bottling of the tequila. The tequila making process at Fortaleza is very little altered from the original artisan process, and this shows in the quality of the product, which can be sampled in their magnificent cave at the end of the tour. So, if you persevere with getting on the tour, then you will be rewarded with a great experience!

Casa Sauza

Welcome to the amazing experience of Casa Sauza.

Reviewed By S9468MTrachelt

I highly recommend doing the Sauza tour. Especially if you are English speaking - our group of 4 ended up getting a private tour because we needed an English guide and it was fantastic. Earlier that day we toured the Jose Cuervo factory and it was disappointing, especially once we experienced Sauza. At Jose Cuervo the tour groups were huge, there were 3-4 of these huge groups going around at a time and they got jammed up. So we ended up waiting at each ‘station’ and the worst part was that there was very little information given and we could barely hear the tour guide because the group was so huge. Sauza, on the other hand, was amazing! Our tour guide provided so much information about the factory, the process and the history, it was fascinating. He also taught us how to distinguish between adulterated tequila (which can cause blindness and even death) and proper tequila, so that was really cool too. I cannot say enough great thing about Sauza and their factory/tour and their tequila is amazing. Skip the overhyped Jose Cuervo and try out Sauza, you will not be disappointed!!

Destileria La Rojena

La Rojena(R) is the distillery of Jose Cuervo(R). We invite you to tour the oldest distillery in Latin America, where you will be able to see the tequila production process first-hand, and enjoy our Hacienda, where you can become a tequila expert with a professional tasting, enjoy a delicious margarita, or buy our products at the best prices.

In the courtyard before entering is a statue of a big crow because cuervo in Spanish means crow. And Joseph in Spanish is Jose so I guess Jose Cuervo could be called Joe Crow in English, right??? This tour starts off with a video subtitled in English and then I joined the English speaking group for the walk thru of the factory. Not only learned about the process of making tequila, also got to make tastings along the way. From seeing agave plants to the barrels to bottles, the tour took about an hour and it was all good. Jose Cuervo has been making tequila here for over 200 years.

Tequila Herradura

Explore the historic grounds where Tequila Herradura has flourished for over 145 years. Starting at the traditional residences where many Casa Herradura employees live, you will walk the roads of the hacienda as we guide you through the production process. Stops include visiting the masonry ovens where you’ll try the distinctive taste of cooked agave and see a live demonstration from our skilled Jimadors. From there, we’ll take you to visit our citrus groves and open-air fermentation tanks. Here, you’ll follow Tequila Herradura closely on its long journey to maturity until it reaches its distillation process. The day will end with an introduction to the world of Tequila Herradura’s most iconic spirits.

This tour of the beautiful hacienda and agave processing plant helped me to see why Herradura is the king of Tequila. Prior to this visit all I knew about tequila is that I enjoyed an occasional taste. Now I have a much better understanding of the history, art and science of the complex liquor. This tequila tasting session at the end of the tour was informative and enjoyable A couple of practicalities: Wear comfortable shoes since you’ll be walking a lot and some of the surfaces are uneven cobblestones. Unless you’re taking the “Tequila Express” or a pre-arranged tour, double check tour times and languages. Make a day of it! Enjoy the beautiful fields of blue agave on the road into town. If you have time and transport, you can also head over to the town of tequila to enjoy festive atmosphere.

Baston del Rey

Reviewed By hdparnell - Soquel, United States

Introduced at a zip line venue tasting experience.......that in & of itself was great for wife, daughter & new son in law! I bought 3 bottles Extra Anejo & 5 bottles of various flavored liquors. I have shared w/ friends & family and everyone finds it to be the best sippin tequila they’ve tried. The flavored tequilas w/ ‘regular’ tequila totally ‘kicks it up a notch’ and turns regular into a sippin tequila!! I don’t regret what I paid. Old saying is true....you get what you pay for. Added 1-30-21: We’re sipping our way thru the 3rd bottle. Bringing it out for special friends & occasions. I’ve read some of the negative reviews & for what it may be worth......I have been on a ‘very diligent’ hunt for an añejo or more particularly an extra añejo that duplicates the quality. I have spent hundreds of dollars trying extra añejo tequilas and all run $100+, even at Costco this holiday season, and none match the quality, especially taste, of Bastón del Rey’s extra añejo. We literally are planning a trip back to PV to buy at least 6 bottles. The guy that said he found it at hotel web sites? Good for him I haven’t. Again I’ve found nothing to compare. Enjoy 2021!
