Things to do in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan: The Best Safaris

July 17, 2021 Velvet Champine

The dramatic and romantic desert fortress of Jaisalmer is an exotic city in Rajasthan’s great Thar Desert. "The Golden City" rose to prominence as a result of its position on camel trade routes. It's now most famous for the 12th-century fort and ornate "Havelis," fine merchant-built houses and pavilions in the city’s medieval lanes. The surrounding Desert National Park offers opportunities to observe blackbucks, desert foxes and chinkaras amid the rolling dunes, rugged crags and waterholes.

Damodra Desert Camp

Our Camel safaris are adventures and unique because we travel from remote areas filled with joy and free from tourist distractions with a maximum no. of persons per safari. The main objective is to spread knowledge of the natural and cultural resources of Northern India and distribute the benefits of tourism throughout the region, especially to the rural communities. A longer safari also offers you an opportunity to experience the more remote areas and therefore the relaxation the desert has to offer and it means more fun on the camel and more nights with the shooting stars rather than more sightseeing. Our staff team would take immense pleasure in showing you our special part of India in an environmentally friendly way

After a lot of research we finally planned to stay at Damodra Desert camp with one more couple friend of ours. We were sceptical about not going to Sam which was the most heard of Desert camp at Rajasthan. Although the charges of this place is more than others but every penny you spend here will be worth it. The pros - Not very crowded space and the gentry of the crowd was quite elite - The food quality was exceptional - The rooms were well equipped from the desert point of view with provision for AC, heater - I loved the washrooms of the hotel. Stone architecture with the very Rugged feel - The Bonfire Arena was exceptional with good shows from the local Rajasthani Folk troop. They performed singing, dancing and Puppet shows। - The staff is very hospitable, specially Mr. Madav. He took care of all of our needs, small and big. - The desert experience too was superb considering there was very less crowd and all the people accompanying us were very friendly. - Star gazing from the small area was mesmerising. Overall there was nothing I could complain of. Mr. Madhav was very friendly and co operative. I would suggest everyone to visit this place if you plan to visit Jaisalmer and experience the true desert feel of India. -
