Convento de San Antonio de Padua

It dominates the town. Nice to walk around the buildings although there is not a great deal to see. It's more famous for the visit by Pope John Paul II when he "crowned" the statue of the Virgin. It's next to the main plaza. We enjoyed it because it was not overcrowded by other tourists.

Cenote Chihuan

We found the Cenote Chihuan after meeting our cenote guide Jose Hippoyte Pool Pool by pure luck. He followed our car on his moto-taxi and introduced himself when we stopped. He is an excellent cenote guide showing us 4 beautiful places to cool off and enjoy the beauty of these phenomenal geological features. Use a guide to explore multiple cenotes. It is well worth it!

Simply amazing and a must to visit! Spectacular only begins to describe this experience in the second largest enclosed space in the world...Second to the Vatican. The tour is well worth the 10 pesos to see the many gowns created for the statue of the Virgin. The church, grounds and convent are beautifully maintained, and the whole town is immaculately clean and painted yellow to match the church. A few very nice hotels and easy access from the bus lines. Easy travel destination though a little out of the way. Just go.

Piramide de Kinich Kak Moo

Reviewed By PhilipG672 - Denver, United States

The Kinich Kak Moo Piramide is a short walk from the center of Izamal. If you're planning to climb to the top I suggest doing it in the morning before it gets hot. Views from the top are worth the climb and illustrates how little the topography changes in the peninsula.

Plaza Izamal

Reviewed By AliBug - Charlotte, United States

My husband and I only had a couple of hours to spend here, so we made our way to the Plaza in the center of town. Here you will see shops surrounding 3 blocks of the area and the convent the 4th. Horse and carriage rides line the street with brightly colored carriages adorned with flowers and the horses wear hats. They're adorable. Here is also where you'll find the Izamal sign. It's a lovely location in the center of the town.
