Liguria, or the Italian Riviera, boasts a bounty of beaches and resort towns, such as tiny but tony Portofino and stylish Rapallo. Hiking trails lead from Portofino to the villages of Cinque Terre. The Riviera of the Setting Sun runs north from Genoa to the French border. Connected by an extensive rail network, most towns make easy daytrips from one another. Genoa is the region's principal city and is home to attractions from its famous Cathedral and the Palazzo Reale to an excellent aquarium.

Karl is a terrific guide to this cryptic city. We (4 of us) booked a 7 hour tour, with some concern over the length. Turns out it is the ideal way to learn about Genoa and it's lead role in the development and growth of western Europe. Karl unlocks the history as we toured through the old city and it's faded palaces. Many food and drink stops along the way to sample regional foods and rest your feet -- it is a lot of walking but with proper shoes and decent physical shape all doable. I don't think the city can be figured out without a proper guide, and Karl is the guy to do it. He is high-energy, customer-oriented, and has deep knowledge of the region. Highly recommended! Note: if you're looking to visit the tourist attractions on the water (aquarium, shops, Italy) this is not this tour.

Ingrid is full of historic, trivia, & tidbit facts/information about the entire French Riviera. We hired her for 2 days and she never disappointed us. Learned much about Nice, coastline, Eze, Monaco, Monte Carlo. 3 countries in ONE hour - she made it happened! France, Italy & Monaco. She told us it was the "perfect" time of the year to visit - few tourists & reduced prices, including hotel & shops. 2nd day was spent in Antibes (where Picasso lived 5 months/1946), small family run winery, St. Paul de Vence & more. Picnics both days - breathtaking views of countryside. She brought cloth tablecloths/wine glasses - niceities to add to experience!.Our trip seems surreal now, but we have boundless treasured memories thanks to Ingrid!

What if I told you that there is a hidden gem in the North, a place that few people regard, totally off the beaten path yet only 2 hours away from Milan… what if I told you that this place, nevertheless, once used to be the dominating force in the Mediterranean? What if I told you Christopher Columbus and Marco Polo… what if I told you Italy’s main harbour, where almost all emigrants left from towards the United States of America, and so maybe even your own Italian ancestors? A city you have never seen before as such, great in its medieval glory, devotional to the sea yet embraced by tall mountains, the most densely built medieval city centre of Europe, buildings as old as 900 years yet still normally inhabited - daily life and hidden activities? Oh you would only dream to visit such a town, if only you knew it existed. This I heard so often before: If only I knew … Well, now you know. Don’t miss Genoa. I will take you there.
Inclusions: Private transportation
Exclusions: No food and beverages included.
