Things to do in Italian Riviera, Liguria: The Best Day Trips from

January 16, 2022 Agatha Simes

Liguria, or the Italian Riviera, boasts a bounty of beaches and resort towns, such as tiny but tony Portofino and stylish Rapallo. Hiking trails lead from Portofino to the villages of Cinque Terre. The Riviera of the Setting Sun runs north from Genoa to the French border. Connected by an extensive rail network, most towns make easy daytrips from one another. Genoa is the region's principal city and is home to attractions from its famous Cathedral and the Palazzo Reale to an excellent aquarium.

During your journey in Genoa you can’t miss a day trip to Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure. A drive will pick you up in Genoa, at your hotel or at the port, and he will take you first to the charming Portofino. Once arrived go ahead and walk around the main square “La Piazzetta”, and then go up to Saint George’s church and the Brown’s Castle, where you can admire one of the most exclusive views of the Ligurian coastline. Enjoy your lunch in Portofino and then, you will be taken to Santa Margherita Ligure. It is a lovely fishermen village, with antique house and modern luxurious hotels. Relax while eating "gelato", the italian ice cream, and walk through the streets of “Santa”, as it is called from locals. At the end of your tour your driver will take you back to Genoa, while you will keep memories of this wonderful day very longer!

Ingrid is full of historic, trivia, & tidbit facts/information about the entire French Riviera. We hired her for 2 days and she never disappointed us. Learned much about Nice, coastline, Eze, Monaco, Monte Carlo. 3 countries in ONE hour - she made it happened! France, Italy & Monaco. She told us it was the "perfect" time of the year to visit - few tourists & reduced prices, including hotel & shops. 2nd day was spent in Antibes (where Picasso lived 5 months/1946), small family run winery, St. Paul de Vence & more. Picnics both days - breathtaking views of countryside. She brought cloth tablecloths/wine glasses - niceities to add to experience!.Our trip seems surreal now, but we have boundless treasured memories thanks to Ingrid!

Tour guide was very friendly and informative. Driver was friendly and stopped at several locations so we could see and experience all there was in Rome. We were driven in a spacious very clean mini van and we were made very comfortable. Both spoke excellent English. Would not have had such an excellent experience without these two people. They took good care of us and were always looking out for us but at the same time, they made us feel like family. Driver took us to a restaurant that was very authentic and served us wine and everything on the menu! I would recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting Rome including families.

Only 7 people and the tour was by Van. The driver guided us during the drive but no guide joined us at our stop in Castellina. Professional presentations at the wineries. Especially at Poggio Amorreli with Andrea where we were treated with Spumante, one white and two red Chianti and one supertuscan. We also got bread, cheese, salami with their own balsamic vinegar and olive oil. The driver called for a taxi upon arrival in Florence ????
