Things to do in Ipoh, Perak: The Best Outdoor Activities

May 30, 2021 Hana Mouser

The British colonial city of Ipoh had humble beginnings, but has blossomed into a beautiful cityscape that marries old-world charm with modern amenities. This is a foodie's city, offering endless street stalls and restaurants all eager to serve up a sample of mouthwatering local fare. Walk it all off on a jaunt through breathtaking limestone caves that seem carved by the capable hands of a higher power.

We stayed 2 nights at Meru Valley and had a great time. Superb atmosphere for a relax weekend. Even though it says 10 mins from the city it is a bit difficult to walk from the city to the resort considering the road network. Get a taxi or use your own vehicle. Taxi costs about 12-14 MYR from the city to the suites. Once you reach the guard house, you just need to tell them that you have a reservation. The guards will escort you to the main entrance of the suites. Once done with the paper work the receptionist will take you to your room and give you information on the way. Since I'm not much in to Golf I will not comment on that regard. Good breakfast buffet at the Dome restaurant. Even though it was the club house wearing shorts was allowed during dining. Tried Osrich satay on the BBQ night and it was lovely. At times the food takes a bit longer to be delivered than usual. Great hospitality and service from the staff. The best part is that every time you see a guard they will salute you. Be kind enough to salute back. If your planning to take the train from KL to Ipoh make sure that you get your tickets early. We ended up spending a good amount of money using the taxi since all trains were booked on the day we planned to go. No buses to Ipoh from KL,so its either the train or the Taxi. The city seems to be dead on Sundays where most of the attractions close before noon. We ended up doing nothing at Ipoh since it was a Sunday. That gave us plenty of time to enjoy a good relaxing 2 days at the suites.

Oh wow! Tough! I love walking but the incline got to me . I wasn’t really prepared for the challenge. Lesson learned. I need to get better walking shoes with tighter ankle grip for walking down. It took us 2 and a half hours up and less coming down. We started at 10am and lucky that the day wasn’t too hot. So glad we made it to the top ! Hydrate often!! Take tiny sips every few mins , and even coming down. 1 ltr bottle should be enough for 1 person to drink and carry down.
