Raptor’s inn is a simple unassuming home stay located close to the sanctuary. Atul is a very committed bird guide who puts in tonnes of effort. Has a never give up attitude. A good judge of bird behaviour and how to position the gypsy to get good shots. Suggest that you be clear regarding your requirements and he does his best to take care of it all. The food at the inn is spectacular simple home food. We sure hogged away like there was no tomorrow. All in all a great experience. Nothing to fault. This is a simple homestay but comfortable, clean and high on the satisfaction quotient. Highly recommend.

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary

Ranganathittu is a bird sanctuary that can be visited throughout the year by bird lovers. Easily accessible from Bangalore, enroute to Mysore, visiting this place is a great option for both children and adults. Visit early in the morning and hire a boat. November heralds in the winter migrants who stay put until March, adding to the already numerous varieties of birds you can see here.

A well preserved bird sanctuary that one can escape into, from the bursting cities and pollution. A soothing boat ride on the calm waters and the view of various species of birds flying, nesting, bathing, catching prey or just lazily perched on a branch or a twig is mesmerizing. Crocodiles, bats and tiny animals add charm to this nature's beauty. It is like winning a lottery for wildlife and nature photography lovers. The boats sail pretty close to most of the islands although, stepping on those islands is strictly prohibited. There are a few pathways and benches amid the green on the mainland, to either take a stroll or sit back and enjoy the chirping of birds and other pleasant sounds of nature. There are a few watch towers to enjoy the view if one is not hydrophobic. There is a souvenir shop, a small bird museum , a few food carts and clean washrooms. Mawphlang Sacred Forest

Reviewed By ComfortYatri - Ahmedabad, India

This is a must visit tourist attraction in Meghalaya. Journey is bit long but not strenuous. When we reached there, in our front was a vast stretch of open land and on its one end was vast tall green canvas as if someone has drawn it to the scale in straight line. It was sacred forest. Our special guide for the place had to lead us to its entrance which otherwise is most likely to be missed. And inside that lay a unique very vast jungle. Tall tress, road wet all along, chirping of birds all through, orange size lemon trees, different species of mushrooms, spectacular variety of trees, no ray of sun, pin drop silence, big hanging branches of trees, places where local heads occasionally visit to pray and make offerings to jungle God. We were warned not to take out even the smallest of leaf from said jungle. Legend has it that whosoever dared break said rule, soon was condemned to some unknown illness and ultimately paid with his/her life. So we did enjoy lemon juice of freshly plucked lemons inside jungle but the party had to be over then and there. one has to be there to believe and enjoy what really said Sacred Forest has to offer. After visiting said place, we met with visitors at Kaziranga who were part of tour group arranged by one reputed tour operator. We asked whether the said place was on their itinerary and... you guessed right. IT WAS NOT. After returning home, we checked with some other colleagues and friends who have recently visited Meghalaya about their experience of this awesome place. To our surprise they did not know about this place and one of them was one who is an avid traveller and explorer of the places. So my suggestion to the readers is - do include Mawphlang sacred forest in your itinerary when you visit Meghalaya. Good luck.
