We did the guided tour at Tanshikar spice farm followed by an incredibly delicious buffet style lunch which was included in the tour price. The female guide was very knowledgeable and presented all the informations in a very entertaining way. The farm is operating family owned in the 6th generation and is growing their products organically ever since. As a side business they even produce bio-degradatable plates and cutlery made from dryed betel-palm leafs. If you are in the area make sure you swing by this place and do the tour. You should let them know about your visit in beforehand though to give them a chance to prepare enough food for everyone.

My stay here on their permaculture retreat was lamentably too short. Siddharth and Sweta were wonderful, literally making me feel at home in a country that is O so far away from being that. The experience on offer is highly integrative. Right from the materials used in your accommodation to their method of cultivation, this is all backed by a wealth of knowledge that the two collectively wield, all stemming from an ethic to live sustainably, locally and ultimately in harmony with nature. I think this was the best possible placed that I could have stayed to restore both body and mind before heading for a mountaineering course (which was great :). If being immersed in nature, learning to live according to its principles and hearing some heartening stories sounds like something for you, then you will love this place. I hope to go back and volunteer there one day.

Mercara Gold Estate is a 20 year old coffee and spice farm 8 KM from Madikeri, Coorg. The farm is unique as all the spices are grown and well organised. There is also coffee processing and roasting at the estate itself. The estate offers a guided tour of the farm and visitors are introduced to all the different crops as well as roasting process. The tour takes about a hour and coffee is served at the end of it. Visitors also can buy some farm fresh products.
We were guided by Mr Ravi. He is very kind and knowledgeable guide who has a good knowledge about the plantation and explained everything about verities of coffee and spices. Enjoyed the plantation visit especially my son Evan he enjoyed walking through that plantation with Mr Ravi.

This is India's Premier commercial Dragon Fruit Farm. People visit us to learn about dragon fruit farming, for relaxation and buying of different products grown on the farm.
After having the juicy Dragon fruit in Mumbai, we always wanted to visit its Farm to know more about its cultivation. It was a pleasant day and the visit was worthwhile. The farm is huge one with many many plantations of both White and Red Dragon fruits. A lot of thought has been put into making the farm. The farm manager explained us the entire process right from planting to fruit to packaging and export etc. We were given one each Red and White Dragon Fruit to eat/taste - on the house. Definitely worth visiting and getting to know more about this unique fruit.

We visited this on our recent trip with Calypso Tours around S India. What a brilliant visit and talk from local bee keeper Tom Philip’s. These guys know their stuff and my friends and I loved being able to stand next to an open hive, taste honey direct from the comb, all whilst the 1000s if bees buzzed around doing their work. Highly recommended. Honey tastes lovely and can be procured.
