An ancient city in the Flemish province of West Flanders, Ieper (as it’s known in the Flemish tongue) has enjoyed financial and cultural status since the 12th century. Today, visitors can check out remnants of its impressive past, including ramparts that date back to 1385 and an historic moat, which now is a haven for wildlife. Ieper found itself in the middle of World War I and suffered tremendous damage to all of its buildings, but has been both reconstructed in its medieval style and built up with modern structures.

There are several chocolate shops in Ypres. We have been visiting ‘t HEMELRYCK for over 12 years and we believe this is the best chocolate shop you will ever visit. Yes we have tried the other shops.

My favourite chocolate shop in Ypres. The sticky orange slices half dipped in dark chocolate are scrumptious. We bought 2 750g boxes, one for us and one for our son and his partner and they were equally enthusiastic.

This was the 2nd time we had visited this shop - we stay in Ypres for a couple of days on our drive back to the UK from Greece each year . Fantastic shop, the chocolates are lovely and the staff are welcoming and friendly. At the back of the shop are about 10 policemen's helmets which the owner told me had been donated by various visitors....... We would recommend the chocolate
LEET47 is a brand new Art Gallery in the centre of Ypres. Words and pictures to make twinkles in the eye and colours agree in the dark. Thoughts on daydreams. Have you seen a purple cow or an orange tree? When less can be more than enough. LEET47 is looking sideways. We show you not to live iwth a paperbag on your head, but to look at the rainbow while the rain is still falling.
