We saw some lights and Armann was amazing. It seems many people on other tours weren’t so lucky but I think it was our guides local knowledge that nailed it for us. What’s more we had a running commentary about the old Gods and local history that was fascinating. I would do this tour again.

The Askja Caldera tour brings out the essence of Iceland nature experience. The day begins early, heading into the barren wastelands of Iceland´s interior. Our ride is a Jeep and the CO2 impact of the whole trip is offset by a certified agent. There will be stops along the way in order to meet locals who show us the “hows” and “whats” of living in this wonderful place of contrasts. Along the way there will be plenty of photo ops, offering the chance to capture the incredible beauty and landscapes that go from lush to lunar. Lunch stop is en-route depending on conditions on the way, including delicious locally sourced ingredients. We will stop by to visit the place that NASA used as a training ground for astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin for the Apollo 11 lunar landing in 1969. Askja is an active volcano, which last erupted in 1961. The tour includes a hike to the explosion crater Víti (e. Hell) where it is possible to bathe in the geothermal lake in the crater.

Our main reason for coming to Iceland was to see northern lights so my daughter and I chose this tour with Jónas for just the two of us. He was absolutely amazing! We got to see the northern lights that we have been longing for for so long and he even treated us to homemade hot chocolate and very tasty donuts which was a nice touch. Jónas is a jack of all trades so he knows a lot about the area and can give you the science behind the lights. You can tell that he loves his country just based on how passionate he is and how excited he is to share it with visitors. He took professional pictures for us and allowed us to download them so that we could show them to our friends and family which is a fantastic perk since we could not get our cameras to work very well each time the lights showed up. We had done a similar northern lights tour in Reykjavik which had 15 people packed on a small bus where everything felt squished and rushed, but this trip was 10x better than that. You won’t be disappointed by having Jónas take you out to see the northern lights. He’s a wonderful person and treated us as guests unlike some of the bigger companies that just pack as many people as they can on a bus to get the most money. So book your next trip with Jónas and go see those northern lights as they are stunning!
Gjastykki is a beautiful and rugged rift valley to the north of the caldera Krafla, in the north of Iceland. Gjastykki was literally blown apart by the eruption of Krafla during the years 1975-1984. Two of the three areas that were active during that time are still warm. The area is covered with multicolored slag from the Krafla eruption and bears stark witness to the movement of the tectonic plates. On this 8 hour tour you will experience both common destination points of interest and some less visited, where you will enjoy a unique local experience of solitude and tranquility -Litla Viti crater -Stora Viti crater -Theistareykir geo thermal area -Togarahellir cave -Husavikurfjall Mountain top

This tour is a combination of hiking and sightseeing. We start our tour from Akureyri. Our first stop is Goðafoss [the waterfall of the Gods]. Afterwards we will keep on driving direction Lake Mývatn. Next stop will be Dettifoss waterfall. Dettifoss is Europe's second most powerful waterfall. Then it's off to Hljóðaklettar, a row of ancient craters shaped by the glacial river Jökulsá. This area is where we go hiking for about 2 hours in a very unique landscape. Then we head towards the ocean where we may be able to discover some puffins which are found in the area from May to beginning of August. Next it's time for coffee at Tungulending, a small coffee house located on the beach at Skjálfandi bay. From there we go to Húsavík and stroll around the harbour area. Kristján was absolutely amazing! He made sure we got to see all of the amazing sites. Given this time of year things are tricky with weather you always have to be open to change! That being said we had the most amazing tome and got to see the sites we wanted to thanks to Kristján’s expert driving. In addition he is just such a pleasant person and we had great conversation. We will definitely contact him again when we are in town. If you want an amazing time seeing all of the great northern sites definitely use Arctic Fox travel
