It’s no surprise that Hungary is a nation of sweet-lovers. The country has one of Europe’s greatest baking traditions, and it seems Budapest has a cukrászda (bakery) on every block. Hungary is celebrated for its elaborate layer cakes, such as the caramel-topped Dobos torta, which are not only delicious but hold fascinating stories. What better to go with sweets than coffee as well. Budapest’s cafés represent a cultural history of the city itself. At the beginning of the 20th century, Budapest was home to more than 600 opulent coffeehouses which were second-homes to writers and artists. This walking tour will introduce you to some of the city’s greatest (and grandest) cafés and pastry shops.

Inclusions: English-speaking, food-specialized guide, Includes tastings of a variety of sweets, coffee (or other drinks), and sweet Tokaj wine, Tour includes visits to five or six venues, Many stops for photos, questions and occasional sweets-shopping

Exclusions: Gratuities, Additional food and drinks

My husband and I had a two person wine tasting (given to me as a birthday gift) and we had an AMAZING experience! Because of the COVID situation, private tasting are be offered at the group price and so we had the entire place to ourselves. We tasted 5 wines, if I remember correctly, and were each given our own charcuterie plate to complement the wines. We learned so much about the history of wine in Hungary and the different regions. Highly recommend - was a very special experience.
