The mere mention of Hawaii is enough to prompt visions of grass skirts and colorful cocktails with tiny umbrellas. While you will find some kitsch in Honolulu, you’ll also find art museums, bike paths, and some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Popular Waikiki Beach has soft sands and great surf. For majestic Oahu views scramble to the top of Diamond Head – a 350-acre volcanic crater. Historic structures like Iolani Palace and Ali'iolani Hale are worth a visit on a non-beach day.

Shimazu Shave Ice ~ in Hawaii’s Favorite Kitchens. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
This little shop has yummy shaved ice treats...the rainbow with ice cream on the bottom is highly recommended and a local favorite...at least a favorite of the kids...wink. If you have a Kona Ice truck in your town, which is good, go here to see what a REAL shaved ice treat from Hawaii tastes like. Again...yummy.!

I had the best time shopping for fabric and talking with David, it was truly one of the highlights of my trip. I am a quilter so I shop for fabric whenever I travel and David offers such a great selection with such reasonable prices it was wonderful. I used Uber from Waikiki beach and although I could have walked it was well worth the cost of the ride.

We first visited this hole-in-the-wall store about ten years ago and were astounded then with the hundreds or perhaps even thousands of new and vintage aloha shirts of amazing variety that they had for sale. We were back again in Honolulu and, as luck would have it, needed a Hawaiian shirt for a business meeting (In Hawaii, "aloha crisp" is the Hawaiian-shirt equivalent of business casual) so we knew right were we had to go. The selection today is still fantastic. The main problem is trying to decide which shirt or shirts you want to buy. The shop looks to be completely disorganized, but the stock is actually is conveniently segregated by size - all the mediums are on one rack, larges on another, etc. The clerk can also help you find what you are looking for. It took a while to sort through all the patterns, but we finally did find the perfect shirt and, while not cheap, left happy.
