Things to do in Honolulu, Hawaii (HI): The Best Cultural Events

May 12, 2022 Venice Greaves

The mere mention of Hawaii is enough to prompt visions of grass skirts and colorful cocktails with tiny umbrellas. While you will find some kitsch in Honolulu, you’ll also find art museums, bike paths, and some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Popular Waikiki Beach has soft sands and great surf. For majestic Oahu views scramble to the top of Diamond Head – a 350-acre volcanic crater. Historic structures like Iolani Palace and Ali'iolani Hale are worth a visit on a non-beach day.

Aloha Festivals

The Aloha Festivals are a showcase of Hawaii's rich cultural heritage. Free and open to the public, the four festivals take place across the month of September, with different annual themes each season. All of the festivals feature Hawaiian music, dance, and educational workshops, with concerts, street parties, parades, and various other participatory activities taking place. The Opening Ceremony is particularly spectacular, with the presentation of the old "Royal Court", introduced with all the fanfare of hula dancing and traditional chanting. Considered "Hawaii's Largest Block Party", Aloha becomes an all-in affair for locals, who especially enjoy the music, food, and community-wide camaraderie the festivities bring.

Honolulu Marathon

Reviewed By B1365GDannat

A great race! 10k or 42.2 km it is awesome. One of the top ten in the world. Over 30,000 runners. Most carry cameras and don’t mind stopping wherever to take a photo, but really who can blame them ocean vistas and fireworks. Remember it is super hot, so be prepared! There is no time limit which makes it a great race!!!!
