With a great passion for traditional Vietnamese music, Truc Mai music house have been operated by the 3rd generation. Truc Mai music house is just a 5-minute-drive from the city center, standing on a small alley amidst a bustling. Visitors can come, enjoy a traditional music performance and try their hands on over 20 instruments including monochord, stone, bamboo xylophone,...
We were made to feel so welcome here and were served tea upon our arrival followed by an introduction to the various instruments and then relaxing and listening to them being played. Mme Mai's late husband was internationally known composer and musician and we were entertained by Mme Mai and her son playing various instruments. After the concert we were encouraged to wander around and "play" the various instruments which was great fun.

In the same house we have a Latino music bar and a fine cuisine restaurant but in two different area and both are run completely separate.
We returned to Vietnam and this was top of our list to visit and we went there the first day we arrived. All the same musicians were there from last time. The music was absolutely fantastic. The management remembered us from our last visit 3 years ago and set up a lovely food platter. The quality of the musicians was phenomenal and we had the most amazing evening. The musicians do 3 – 5 numbers then another musician or group come on for a similar time slot. Drinks are not expensive considering that there is no admission charge. Music varies from Latino style to conventional popular, to French to classical. Definitely worth a visit if you are in HCM.

Throughout the show, both traditional and modern music harmonize richly, performed live with 17 musical instruments. À Ố Show has become a world-renowned circus, critically acclaimed in 11 countries.
If you only have the time to catch one show in Saigon, it has to be the A O Show. And if you do not have the time, do review your schedule and squeeze it into your travel itinerary as you will not regret it. It is truly an amazing production that is well choreographed, filled with energetic performers and makes creative use of simple everyday objects like bamboo poles and baskets to tell a beautiful story of how life evolves for the people in Vietnam from the village to a modern city. To really enjoyed the show, do go for the ‘Wow’ tickets. It may seem abit pricey, but it also offers the best unblock view from the opera house’s balcony seats. Despite deciding to catch the show just the day before, and having read all the other wonderful reviews of the show we decide to splurge to treat ourselves and were rewarded with great center seats. The returns for those ‘Wow’ tickets were priceless as the whole family were blown away by the breathtaking performance and could not stop taking it after the show. The bonus freebie thrown in has to be an informative 15-20 mins pre-show tour of the Opera House by the production crew. They will share with you the history of the place and it’s significance to the history of Saigon. So with the price of one ticket you get to watch a great show and also at the same time learn abit more about this beautiful and historical building. So do not wait or hesitate, do catch the A O Show when you are ever at Saigon or any city where they are performing.

Whiskey and Craft beer upscale but relaxed and not pretentious bar. Great selection of whiskey and Saigon made craft beer at affordable prices as well as mixed drinks, and Vietnamese-inspired cocktails with locally sourced and homemade ingredients.
A fantastic and trendy little bar. A great selection of local craft beers (Pasteur Street a favourite) and also whiskies and cocktails at a pretty reasonable price (under 100k VND for a beer). Beers very comparable to US/UK craft styles but most much stronger! (8-10%). We chatted with the owner (who is there every night) for about an hour which was great, got a really good insight into expat life in Vietnam and the trials of running a business their! I would highly recommend if you want a relaxed and trendy bar that serves proper alcohol, as opposed to the rubbish on Bui Vein Street just around the corner which is either watered down or just pure ethanol!
