From the top of the ropeway, you can walk around the area. It's a loop and it's an easy walk where you can see the steam vents. I also hiked up towards the summit of the mountain. It's quite steep with loose gravel along the way. I only made it about half way because I wanted to catch the last ropeway back down. Give yourself enough time if you want to hike all the way to the summit and back.

Quiet small town with beautiful autumn foliage (one of the earliest places we saw this autumn scene, on the first week of October). There’s a small foot bath open to public outside the onsen hotel, free to use but we were all wrapped up as it was a chilly day.
