Hesse (/ˈhɛsə/) or Hessia (German: Hessen [ˈhɛsn̩], Hessian dialect: Hesse [ˈhɛzə]) is a federal state (Land) of the Federal Republic of Germany, with just over six million inhabitants. The state capital is Wiesbaden; the largest city is Frankfurt am Main. Until the unification of Germany, the territory of Hesse was occupied by the Grand Duchy of Hesse, the Duchy of Nassau, the free city of Frankfurt and the Electorate of Hesse, known also as Hesse-Cassel. Due to divisions after World War II, the modern federal state does not cover the entire cultural region of Hesse, which includes both the State of Hesse and the area known as Rhenish Hesse (Rheinhessen) in the neighbouring state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

I was recommended this museum by a friend and I am so grateful for that! The place is inspiring to say the least. Very well maintained and you get a real glimpse of the development of chemistry and science during the 1840s. All the works of Justus Liebig is clearly explained including the Liebig barrel and the condensors of course. It is really to be appreciated that the way the explanations are displayed, for any person with some background in science, the whole picture unfolds in front of you! Not to miss the awesome feeling that persons like Erlenmeyer and Kekule and others have used the lab and the classroom here during their life time! There are explanations in each of the rooms in English as well and so unlike some of the other museums, it's a pleasure to visit this place for non German speakers as well.

I found this museum quite interesting. I love astronomy and anything that deals with time, so in that regard this museum did not disappoint. There are many, many time and astronomy pieces on display, some of them so intricate and beautiful. The layout of the museum is easy to follow. If I remember correctly, almost all the placards / description signs are in German only. The building itself is beautiful, the outside in particular. Staff does follow you around... like in many museums, probably to make sure you don't touch anything you aren't supposed to. Entry fee is nominal. Recommended, both for the interesting pieces on display, and to enjoy the outside of the building and the surrounding grounds (which is a park).
