Hesse (/ˈhɛsə/) or Hessia (German: Hessen [ˈhɛsn̩], Hessian dialect: Hesse [ˈhɛzə]) is a federal state (Land) of the Federal Republic of Germany, with just over six million inhabitants. The state capital is Wiesbaden; the largest city is Frankfurt am Main. Until the unification of Germany, the territory of Hesse was occupied by the Grand Duchy of Hesse, the Duchy of Nassau, the free city of Frankfurt and the Electorate of Hesse, known also as Hesse-Cassel. Due to divisions after World War II, the modern federal state does not cover the entire cultural region of Hesse, which includes both the State of Hesse and the area known as Rhenish Hesse (Rheinhessen) in the neighbouring state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

THE HISTORY OF THE KRONBERG PAINTER'S COLONY The painter's colony in Kronberg was one of the most earliest of the German painter's colonies of the 19th century. Altogether 60 artists worked, over several years, in the Kronberg painter's colony including such well known names as Wilhelm Trubner, Jakob Furchtegott Dielmann, Hans Thoma or Carl Morgenstern. Anton Burger's, move to Kronberg, more than 150 years ago, in 1858, is associated today with the foundation of the Kronberg artist's colony. The fluctuation in the colony at times closely resembled our present day cultural tourism.

Housed in a castle-like structure, this art museum holds an impressive collection of classical, Renaissance and Baroque sculptures. Die Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung bleibt vom 16. Marz bis einschließlich 10. April geschlossen. Die Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung folgt damit der behordlichen Vorsorgemaßnahme der Stadt Frankfurt im Zuge der Verbreitung des Coronavirus (Covid-19).
This is a singularly attractive museum in rather fantastical building set in a garden close to the banks of the Main. The place is an oasis and the museum collection is of a very high quality. There is a beautiful classical statue of Athena and a number of high quality Roman heads plus a couple of fine Egyptian burial portraits. The medieval collection contains sculpture in both stone and wood, including polychrome altarpieces. Highlights include heads of the four doctors of the Church, each intensely life-like, several beautiful Virgina and Child images, a St Anne with Mary and Jesus, two romanseque Virgins and a romanesque crucifix.

The Money Museum is an interactive place for exploring the world of money. How is cash produced? What is book money? How does monetary policy work and what exactly does a central bank do? What role does money play in a globalised world? Striking exhibits, attractive staging and more than 80 media stations with games and interactive information provide answers to these and many more money-related questions. The topics are approached from both a current and a historical perspective. The exhibition is both in German and English.
