The very heart of central Helsinki and a very evocative park it is. I live nearby and often pass through it on my way to the shops, or just walk down it when the weather is good. Very clean, well manicured, with lots of benches as well as frequent free musical exhibitions on the covered stage at one end.

At the southern tip of Helsinki, next to the embassy area, and only a short walk from the city center, you find this beautiful park. You get a great view of the islands and the sea, and there are many places where you can grab an icecream cone. Wait a minute, I’m thinking about the summer! The view is stunning also in the winter, but then you will be fighting against a wind that chills you to the bone. Be warned!

A mixture of natural park, cultivated fields and crazing cows nearby aswell as bird watching. I normally bike there, spring is wonderful time. Trees and bushes are in blossom. Vanhakaupunki Bay is very popular bird watching place to follow EG migration of birds. There are also two bird towers where one can climb to watch birds on the Vanhankaupungin Bay.

We visited this 127-year-old garden on 31 October. We were surprised the roses were still in full bloom in the Rose Garden in front of the Winter Garden. The autumn has been exceptionally warm. The garden is best known for its glass building that has three parts: a palm room, a cactus room, and a west wing. Here you can experience the greenery also during the winter months. The entrance is free.
