This pagoda is inside Linji Temple, which confusingly has a separate entry on TripAdvisor. Linji Temple (临济寺) is a peaceful working Tang Dynasty temple with a park in front. There are unfortunately no signs in English though. The temple is free to enter. As with all the temples in Zhengding (except Longxing aka Big Buddha Temple) it stays open until 11pm and is brightly lit up, making it ideal for night photography. It’s very easy to get to, being only a 20-minute cab ride from the centre of Shijiazhuang, or take bus 177 from the medical university bus stop (河北医大) north of the stadium on Zhongshan Road to Zhengding Nanmen (正定南门; if using a transport card you’ll be asked to pay twice when leaving the previous payment zone). Then walk into the walled town and see the map with specific directions to this temple and the others in Zhengding.

This pagoda is inside Kaiyuan Temple, which confusingly has a separate entry on TripAdvisor. It appears to have several names - the Brick Pagoda, Goose Pagoda, Sumeru Tower, and in Chinese, Xumi Pagoda. The impressive Tang Dynasty structure (built in 636) reminded me of the Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an, but you can't climb this one (if you want a view over Zhengding you can climb the pagoda in nearby Guanghui Temple, or climb the city wall at the south gate). The temple itself is fascinating - though there's not much left of the actual temple buildings. Not only does it have the one remaining Tang Dynasty bell tower in China, but it also has one of the largest Bixi (turtle base for a stela) ever found in China, and part of the huge stela next to it. The size and weight of these is just incredible. There's also the unusual San Men pavilion, which looks very unlike other Chinese buildings. There are English signs explaining each feature of the temple. Entry is 10RMB. As with all the temples in Zhengding (except Longxing aka Big Buddha Temple) it stays open until 11pm and is brightly lit up, making it ideal for night photography. Right next to the temple you can see part of the archaeological excavation of Zhengding left uncovered and on display with signs explaining the different features (in Chinese only unfortunately).

This is a beautiful and strikingly well-preserved Tang Dynasty pagoda set in a small temple (Guanghui Temple 广惠寺) with lovely manicured grounds. There's a collection of stele found during excavations in Zhengding that relate to the temple at the back. There are signs with basic explanations in English. The temple is free to enter and you can climb up to just below the 'flower' part for 15RMB. As with all the temples in Zhengding (except Longxing aka Big Buddha Temple) it stays open until 11pm and is brightly lit up, making it ideal for night photography, or even a night visit if you want to avoid the heat of the summer. It’s very easy to get to, being only a 20-minute cab ride from the centre, or take bus 177 from the medical university bus stop (河北医大) north of the stadium on Zhongshan Road to Zhengding Nanmen (正定南门; if using a transport card you’ll be asked to pay twice when leaving the previous payment zone). Then walk into the walled town and see the map with specific directions to the temple and the other sites in Zhengding.
